Whelp one of my workers pointed out something with one of my tires today. He's always looking for imperfections, cause he knows how ocd I am lol, to piss me off :(. I don't know what to call this.

Has anyone seen this before? Should I be worried?

    Absolutely be worried!

    I would not run that.

Looks like it got hit by a ball of slag.

I would not mess with anything pertaining to sidewall damage, personally.

Too risky, even if it does look like a surface ordeal, there is no way to tell how it will affect the integrity of the tire itself.

As others have said, definitely replace that. The only place I would personally drive that is to my local discount tire.

Looks like it was starting to separate but the separation bubble popped before it got very big. I would get that tire off of the truck. And if it is on the front you could be looking for trouble if it does blow out.

I’m clearly in the minority here, but I wouldn’t even worry or think twice. Hard to tell what tires, but I get some serious gashes here from lava rocks going through several plies. The only thing I’d be concerned about is if it’s a manufacturing defect cause then it’s really hard to say what the cause is and how bad. Because you said you are OCD, pretty much you are gonna get a new tire or tires, so doesn’t really matter what I say, but for what it’s worth, I would not even bat an eye.

It's the toyotires a30 open country, that comes stock on the sport. This truck is a pavement princess, haven't been offroad yet 3,600 miles.

Then it should definitely be covered under the bumper to bumper warranty, that looks like either a manufacturing defect, an air bubble that got trapped during the molding process and has burst open or given the rough texture it looks like a burn mark like a ball of molten welding slag had embedded into it.

Either way sidewall damage of that magnitude is not something I would take a chance with, me personally I'd mount the spare and take that in as soon as possible.

As @Key-Rei mentions, the tire should be covered by the tire warranty, which is a separate document than your vehicle warranty.

    But I'm curious.

If you are so OCD why is there what looks like tape residue on your wheel?

I’m in this camp as well. Hard to tell from pics how deep it is but it doesn’t look alarming to me and I wouldn’t be scared at all. Definitely wouldn’t be making the tire shop my first stop - especially since you’ve already put miles on it and it’s been fine.

Of course IF you can get it replaced under warranty then I’d do it. No reason not too.

I tried goo gone, wouldn't come off, so im waiting until the sun turns it to dust.

Looks like tire warranty is from Toyo tires, not Toyota. Toyo tires advised me to take it to one of their dealers for inspection.

Mineral spirits. Goo Gone is for housewives.

Correct. Thus the separate document with your warranty materials.

BTW, don't let your coworker get under your skin. Smile, nod, go about your business. If you let him see he's pushing your buttons, he'll just keep on doing it, 'cause he can.
