Did some refining work on the quarter fairing today. Added the washers to get rid of the rattle. While I had the fairing off, I took a little time to dress up the back of it. It’s purely cosmetic but it’s kind of what separates the real deal from the knock offs. What bothered me most is that while riding, I’m staring at the back that is unfinished ABS plastic and it just looks cheap. I didn’t take a before picture but here’s the back of the TSport fairing that looks the same:
    DE00213E-42B6-42B8-89A3-B28CBCD70329.jpg

Sharp edges from no post-casting work and smudges from the glossy paint on the front. I ended up knocking down every cast in edge with a razor and sanding the whole thing with 180 grit. Then I coated it with the same wrinkle black that is prominent on the rest of the bike. Now it looks like a finished piece instead of the China knock off that it is.

I love how forgiving this coating is. I’ve been using it for years on various projects. It has awesome adhesion but has a super long (full) cure time.

I also test fit the TSport fairing. I kinda like the overall look but I want to test ride it before I decide which to keep. I still have to make the mounting brackets and headlight extension for the TSport so it’ll be a minute before it get that one on permanently.

    Compared to the quarter fairing.

I think it's getting time to sell at least some of the bikes. First up: 06 F4i.

Interested in your review. I've been considering a clamshell/Tsport fairing for my FXR. Which manufacturer did you go with?

They’re the Krator (Amazon) fairings. I had the same brand Quarter fairing on my street bob and it was great. I will say that these did require a little more finessing than the last one so maybe they’re cutting a few more corners in the manufacturing process than they used to. I have no problem working them over a bit since I have the tools and ability to do so but if you expect a quick bolt-on install, you might be disappointed with them. That’s kind of the trade off for the price Vs. getting the MoCo version.

Big bore kits are good but your days on your stock motor are numbered i seen BB motors last between 6 months to 1 year lol...anyways well if u can source a motor 250 or 300 for a good price do it but these motors are getting hard to find because everyone is trying to swap nowadays and these wrecking yards are seeing this now and are jacking up the price for the motors...after all said and done 4k is what u will be at afterwards

It's been years since I've ridden the F4i, and I don't ride in general as frequently as I used to. Really kind of stinks.

Got these cool mini floorboards from Crossthread Cycles…..and I can’t shift with them! :annoyed: Tried altering the angle cause you can, but it just makes it super awkward.

Riding questions for the Peanut Gallery....

    1. When riding on a 3 lane street, which lane is best? Is any lane best? I feel like the middle lane is probably worst, cause you could get cars from both sides.

    2. When riding on streets with a lot of tar snakes, would riding in the middle of the lane be any safer? Typically, they say avoid the middle of the lane cause that's where more oil and grime buildup is. However, riding on tar snakes isn't necessarily a great option either.

    Ride safe y'all! :bikewheelie:

I tried a pair like that on a bike I had awhile back and had the same issue. They’re just too wide to work on a Sportster IMO.

I usually ride middle lane in that scenario. For me, it’s about having an escape route. Sure you have cars coming from both sides, but you’ve got options to swerve to either side of you as well. If you ride far left or far right lane and someone comes over, all you can do is brake.

Scenario 1 I usually pick center lane but it depends on traffic, road condition, and time of day. I'll ride slightly faster than flow of traffic, within reason so I'm passing other vehicles but not flying by them where it attracts undue attention. After dark I prefer it so any wildlife that may dart out in front of me I should have escape room.
Scenario 2 depends on weather conditions and traffic. If it has rained recently that the oils are washed off I will take the center if it has less tar snakes.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Opinion time...just cleaned the shed today and I dug out my old motos from my childhood. My brother and I each got one in 1980, but I think they're 1979s.

About 10 years ago I pulled one apart to see if I could clean it up and get it going but never got past taking it apart.

Thinking I should sell them off to someone who has more time to treat them right. Any opinion on what I could get for them?
