So I took advantage of the Autogeek 25% off and free shipping Labor Day sale. Needed some more bug remover and car wash, went 3D products this time. Also got some more pads and microfibers. Added a tin of Collinite 476 for shits and giggles. Gonna try it out for the winter protection on the Tacoma and Camry. Much as I love these new ceramic sprays I've found Collinite 845 holds up better to the touch free car wash. Supposedly holds up better than the 845. Kind of a PITA to apply a paste with a DA, but we'll try er' out. Got vacation week following, so I guess the Tacoma will get a nice detail :D

Do you need to remove any wax before applying any ceramic sprays?

I use this from time to time and wonder if I'm applying it properly. I can see the results immediately.

Generally, 2 coats of wax annually holds up nicely for me.

Alot of people add ceramic sprays to their base wax or sealant. Alot of the over the counter spray waxes don't add a whole lot of gloss, but waxes and some sealants do add gloss. They'll lay down a coat of two of wax/sealant for that "pop" and then do a coat or two of ceramic spray. Some do it backwards, but hey, ya gotta experiment!

I used Griot's Ceramic Spray on my truck a couple months ago. The beading had been insane, but the gloss was not that much improved. It looks "shiny" but that's merely an effect or illusion of staying clean, as I try and keep it. However I have never polished the paint out yet. My old pads are worn out and are splitting apart with my new long throw DA, so I just went with a quick iron decon and spray last time. I ordered 4 Lake Country Microfiber polishing pads to replace some old ones. My winter "detail" this time will be a quick one step polish and then seal with the 476. I'll spray some of the Griot's ceramic spray on a microfiber and wipe down the plastic trim however.

As an experiment the Jeep will get a quick glaze and a couple "coats" of the Griot's spray. It sits out 24/7 compared to the truck which is garaged. We'll see how each last. Kind of a strange comparison, but the truck is driven through all the elements. The Jeep will just stay buried under the snow

Sorry for the long drawn out reply...

See my edited post. I've been following up hand wax (I've never used a polisher) with a spray. Seems to be working, so I'll keep at it. The little scratches & swirls here and there don't bother me. It's a truck.

Heh, I seen that. I was like WTF when did that get there

I'll be tempted to do a quick spray mid winter when the occasional 50° temp appears, but I'm gonna hold off just to see how well the 476 does.

Also going to coat the Camry in the 476 as it will be sitting out this winter. Has been decided to keep it outside so the Talon has a place to be to get rust repair. Makes it easier to get the Tacoma out in the snow not having to clear it off.

Like you, I hit those touch less washes in winter. I think the "spray wax" in those works some, as I still have decent beading come March/April.

Plus the really cool colored foam!

Actually I never pick that option. The touchless up the street rapes us on price and I ain't payin' for that!

I'll throw on some overalls and spray the undercarriage with degreaser and rinse the frame/underbody off first in the self serve and then hit the touchless. I get some weird looks, but the people who are in the know understand.

    Tri-Colored Foam!!

I think the one I use is programmed wrong. I get the tri-foam with the Silver wash. It's got a great multi-angled bottom blast too. I'll do the undercarriage by hand if it's been muddy from a hunting trip.

From the looks of it, that Unicorn hadn't seen a windshield in a long time.
