I remember in my climbing days we didn’t take many pictures when we were flailing either. 6-3 road trip was fine, 0-3 to start the home stand wasn’t. No runs, losing 3 starters and a position player didn’t help but it felt more like ‘shit happens and sometimes you lose some”. This whole season has been house money so the pressure just isn’t there. Was at the game today and voodoo fingers worked again for Estrada. Some great defensive plays by Slater, Dubon, and Estrada. Was cool to see the moment Vogelbach tried to kick it into gear thinking “hah, he’s so getting hosed”.

omg. it means you’re comparing an aspect of the modern game to a nostalgic purity that hasn’t existed since 1908, while at the exact same time ignoring every single other thing about the game that’s also evolved or changed since then.

you have an emotional association with the one thing you hate, and you’re justifying your feelings with a false pretense (i.e. dishonesty) - that *that* thing is not *original*. but you don’t share the same ill will towards other aspects of the modern game that you do enjoy (specialty bullpens, a dozen pitchers on staff, the fact your pitchers only play once a week - why not every day like all the “real” players???, etc.).

more simply, you’re only employing your fundamentalist criticism towards the one thing, but nothing else. it’s bullshit. thank you for coming to my ted talk. now stop quoting me.

Most of that “evolution” you speak of is not by rule but evolved from how the game is managed by the teams, using what works and avoiding what doesn’t, analytics or “the book” call it whatever you want. The game has changed, duh. For better or worse is a topic many have argued, usually the arguments against have been how much weaker modern players have become(no more Cal Ripken’s or Juan Marichal’s pitching 16 inning complete games). Those changes are evolutionary but not locked in by rule. The DH isn’t singled out by me, it just happens to be the point under discussion atm. Yes the DH is not original, neither is the 7 inning game or the automatic runner but it’s ok not to like those? I don’t oppose rule changes, I oppose that one. Examples of some I approve of are eliminating the take out slide at second, blocking the plate at home, limiting mound visits. That said I’ve no problem with keeping it IN THE AL. Universal DH forced by rule into every stadium in the country, no thank you. I don’t like corked bats, spider tac, or using tv coverage to steal signs but if your guy on second can do it and signal the hitter from there then more power to ya.

just want to stop for a sec and appreciate that this man, who hates the DH more than anything in the universe, says pitchers *can* be good hitters and so the DH is stupid. and for his evidence of this, he cites the *american league* pitcher(!) who not only bats as his own DH(!!), but serves as DH for the rest of his pitching staff(!!!) on his off days! oh and he also leads all of major league baseball in home runs(!!!!) this season.

terrific stuff, really. because of the stupid and terrible rule, the same all-star player gets 5-6 times as many at-bats as he would if he pitched in the NL. what baseball fan wants to see that?

enjoy your rule. if you read my op, i did not advocate for uni DH and couldn’t care less if pitchers hit or not in the NL. i didn’t say you have to like it either. i only said claiming it “sullies the purity” of the game is flatly ridiculous.

and fyi, the 2019 NL combined BA for pitchers was .131. that is the biggest reason the DH exists, as dumb and meritless as it may be.

Team leading the major leagues in hrs does not have a DH. Shohei plays on one of the worst teams in all of baseball so of course they’re going to showcase him. And do so while hiding all their other pitchers behind his skirts. It’s just too bad they couldn’t hide the rest of the team their as well. If you want to play ball then man up and stand in the box. The DH twists the very concept of the lineup card out of recognition by allowing a team member to hit without ever having to play and a position player to play without ever having to hit. It’s artificial and stupid.

lol read it again my guy. shohei is leading the league in hrs – his impact draws comparisons to babe ruth – and he physically couldn’t do so on a national league team being restricted to once a week play. he’d have…10 home runs by now. not even. you accidentally made the best argument for a DH i’ve seen yet. literally couldn’t make this shit up hahaha.

No accident, everybody knows about Babe Ruth. The whole point of the DH rule was to add offense, a point I’ve not once disputed. Some of the most memorable moments happen when a hitter beats the odds. I don’t watch the game for the expected, I watch it for the unexpected. Logan Webb missed a GS by an inch a few starts back. I’ll accept that most pitchers can’t hit their shoe size for those. Desclafani has maybe one hit all year but the Dodger pitcher still couldn’t throw a strike and walked him last night. The Brewers starter had an rbi double in the previous series. There’s no consequence to the DH, swapping pitchers doesn’t affect the lineup so no double switches, no strategy. If Ruth kept pitching under the DH would wear on his arm have shortened his career? Would we even remember him? Arm problems are the norm not the exception for pitchers. I’ve said all along that I have no problem with the AL keeping it. Let Shohei have his run, he’s a freak of nature so why hold him back? We’ll know the answer to that soon enough but they didn’t have Tommy John surgery in Ruth’s day.

We got a great series coming up... 3 with Boston at the house. Time to exert total AL East dominance.

Of course... were a 1/2 game out from the best in baseball... need to keep the momentum up.

I'll take 2 out of 3 from the dodgers, good series. I thought they were gonna take the Giants to the cleaners with how many injuries they have. Gonna be a crazy last month of the regular season.

The home plate umpire was very inconsistent tonight for both sides, but it was nice to see the Giants take the season series.

And the Giants have an easier end of season than the D******* do. Hopefully that equates to a better final record

Opponents record hasn’t been much of a determining factor that I can tell as likely to win against a good team as lose to a bad one but overall consistently winning series after series. We need to do better against the Padres though(5-4). Granted, those were all in April/May when the Padres were rolling but still, it’s 10 games in a short stretch so pitchers will be familiar to both line ups. It could get bloody.
