Did you work as a teen?

Just a little background info.
I am 17 and my Tacoma was given to me because my mother "Hates driving trucks" so when i got my license she said It would be mine which it now is.

What i am trying to get to is I want to pay for my own mods. And just wondering how many of you worked in High School. I am a 2 sport athlete (football, wrestling). I am worried about not having enough time for a job.

Am i being a lil puss and just find a job already?

Did many of you work as a teen?

haha my dad wouldn't buy me a car until I had a job. He said, "how are u going to pay for gas, repairs, and all that other stuff?" So I got a job. I've been working since 16 and all through college - even as a doctorate student. Plus you learn valuable skills early while working young.

 

Just get a job doing something you like or working with something that youre interested in - it makes it feel less like work.

 

yup work as soon as i was 15 or so. saved up and bought a $7000 car in cash. sold it and biught my truck. i was tought to save my money and if i wanted something extra i had to pay for it.
but once you start working you cant stop...

 

Yeah, minimum wage at a liquor store during high school. Kind of a cool job to have in HS though.

 

i was a waiter at Sizzler all through high school, made pretty good money too for being a teen. I would always make at least $50 a night off tips and that was on a slow night.

 

just get a part time job, i started working at 16 played soccer through highschool and now im 18 and i bought my tacoma 4 months ago and pay for it,mods,gas etc. not too hard

 

I had a job, bought a 300zx then sold it for a streetbike then sold that and made profit, bought my Taco and a quad

 

i second that. My parents gave me my truck as long as i (still applies) dont drink, do drugs, sleep around, ect. But i have to pay for all my mods. I worked when i was 16 at an airport. I wanted to be a fighterpilot in the airforce (hence the name) so i got free flight time. I quit that job to focus on school, and did not work at a real "job" until i sept of this last year. I work at big 5 now and i hate it, they treat me with zero respect and i dont like anything we sell so it is a pain in the but working there.

all in all work somewhere you will have fun, but dont make it your life. Your young and have the rest of your life to work.

 

I got a job in 2003 at a grocery store when I was 15, and worked there until i went active duty last October. Wasn't the best job in the world but it got me through HS and college.

 

I say don't worry so much about upgrading your truck. Play two sports while you can. You will have the rest of your life to "do mods" on your truck. Find something you enjoy and do that the best you can, the "toys" will come soon enough. No you are not a puss.

 

My father is a dirt bag who i haven't seen in years. I never had that fatherly push I guess. but I dont like using that as an excuse.

For some reason I really want to experience working on a farm or dairy I have no idea why.

Started working at my old mans car lots when I was around 12 or so washing cars, probably worked for 10 years on and off through school. Needed to earn cash for beers, chicks, car stereo stuff. Ahhhh.... to be a teen again!

 

You have the rest of your life to work, just enjoy life for now. Im 19 and have had a job since i was 13 or so, i like the money, but i would have also liked to spend that time with friends and whatnot.

I also have a desire to work on a big farm somewhere like you, idk why but i really do.

 

I started working as soon as I could 16 to mod my dakota, quit football to work... wouldnt change a thing.

 

It is doable find a job that will work around your schedule. A dairy and a farm have a lot work that can be done on weekends and such. Having a job while playing sports in high school, will teach you too prioritize your time. Save your money for, what's important to you.

 

I just got my first job in november. It was seasonal, was an assembler at toys r us. I'm a fresh in college and glad I didn't work in high school. It gave me relax time when I wasn't BSing homework or not doing marching band stuff (practices, shows, etc.).

 

starting mowing lawns in the neighborhood at 11...did that until college. started working at 14 in a car radio shop. worked hard during summers and school breaks to save funds for use during the school year. then did sports and other activities during the school year. did that through summer after freshman year of college...after that, it was paid internships in my major (engineering) that paid a lot more than the radio shop and helped me get a full-time job upon graduation.

 

My mom told me the same thing but emphasized more on grades. I am not a fan of Big5 as well.

 

I worked for a ghetto store called Super A grocery store. I started to work when I was 16. I think everybody should work a real world job to see how crummy society is.
