Im with @12TRDTacoma on this one. Sounds like fuel supply issues during high loads.

That was one of my first thoughts too, but why that cause a sudden step change rather than a tapering-off? And when he upshifts the problem is still there but only momentarily? Good idea to check the fuel trims in any case.

Fuel pump is a good idea. I would like to see the knock numbers before and after this occurs. If the ecm is seeing lots of knock whether actual or phantom- it'll pull tons of timing and show similar characteristics as described.

Unlikely it's the SAI system. When it fails it pretty much shits the bed and puts the truck into limp mode where you can't drive faster than something around 50 kph.

Because that's how fuel pumps act. If there is too much fuel pressure demand on the pump it quits supplying the necessary needed amount and gives up.

This would be indicated by high short term and long term positive fuel trim numbers on the respective PIDS.

So I pulled the exhaust cam gears off and pulled the tensioners out for that chain. Figured out where all the broken pieces and metal flakes came from. Probably could have put a new tensioner and dowel pin in and the engine would be good to go. However I don’t know where all the metal flakes went and had a low oil pressure condition so don’t feel comfortable to put this engine back in with out a full rebuild. But I don’t think anything else was damaged.

The not damaged on is the drivers side and the beat the shit out of one is the pass side and the one that had the bolt come loose

I agree it's a fuel supply/ quality issue. Had something very similar happen on my '06 GSXR where at 6k RPM it would buck and just quit putting power out. Finally figured out that it was the secondary fuel injectors that were clogged up. I was hitting the perfect RPM where they were supposed to kick on, and they couldn't. Also had a buddie blow up his SC'ed BMW due to poor quality gas.

Also, the SAI system is evil. Even if it isn't that, rip that out for good measure. For off-road use obviously.

True story, the SAI system gave me a lot of knock. The de-integration of it got rid of a decent amount of it.

If I got rid of it, would I just use blockoff plates on the current dt lt headers? Assuming there's no need to also swap the headers out to non sais, right?

Block off and HPT or the module that Hewitt tech makes. You cannot do one without the other.

Jeebus. I'm glad I added a few extra inch-pounds when I put the bolts back on during the camshaft job.

Well that is a dumb way for a pump to behave. Damn Toyota engineers. I'll let him know that's probably his problem. Better than a supercharger rebuild which is what he thought he needed.

Yeah the tensioner bounced between the two cams and got chewed up. I plan on putting some blue loctite and got torque wrenches this time for everything.

Well this is it, the last month my supercharger is still under factory warranty. Previous owner paid for the 7-yr platinum and had the blower installed at the dealer fall of 2014.

Anything I should have checked on my truck before it runs out? (...not that anything would break, these things are pretty much bulletproof)
