I'm thinking something more along the lines of a drone that looks more like a spider that can EVA. Or maybe even with cold gas maneuver jets and manipulator arms.

Fasteners leave gaps for air loss and no amount of seals can fix that. Welding is air tight and it makes stronger connections than the surrounding parent material.

Initially at least I’d agree. Possibly long term as well if we find other options are preferable to the security and longevity of welded seams. I guess it comes down to the difference between maintaining a presence and actual colonization. But prior to that many many processes and construction techniques will need to be examined both earth side and out yonder.

Terminated the rocket, not the program.

Without any specific knowledge of how their software or engine control computers are set up, I have a hard time seeing that sort of software error affecting only one engine. It would seem strange to me if each engine has its own hard-coded shutdown time.

Isn’t 15 seconds kinda long for a static fire?

Unless they were doing a throttle up to 100%? :notsure:

I mean, they had SLS at 100% for 7+ minutes to simulate time to orbit...

It all depends on the facilities. SpaceX does very short static fires on starship because they have no blast suppression system. Longer fires have blown chunks of concrete up into the engines in their past tests. If however they have good hold downs and a deluge system, a rocket should be able to fire as long as they want.

First time was a fit/procedure test, some of the rockets hadn’t been bench tested yet and the tiles weren’t complete to name a few of the things left unfinished.
    Edit- publicity too.

That still looks unfinished. I thought they planned on doing heat/environmental shielding around all the exposed engine plumbing.
