What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Took it somewhere it shouldn't have gone again. Avoided all traffic but a couple who came out on a quad to smoke a doobie lol



Truck did good, had it high-center and scrape the frame/smack the front cat shield at one point only. Needs more height, oh and i broke a sliding window on the shell

 

That 5-lug gets around pretty good off the beaten path. Do you keep any recovery gear in case you get stuck somewhere?

 

Went to go start on my wheel bearings today...and hopefully wont have to do wheel bearings today
I think the steel washer grinding against the brass bushing of the hub was the grinding noise im having, thoughts?

 

unless you drive in 4wd with the hubs in FREE then that shouldn’t happen. Perhaps the c clip wasn’t properly seated?

are you referring to the CV washer or the golden Jesus bolt washer at the end of the CV?

 

C clip was seated properly, there has been a couple times i was in 4wd with the hubs free. So maybe that caused the shavings and the noise i was getting is the shavings getting ground up?

I have an old shell with the side windows your welcome to have. Where are you located?

 

I would clean it out. Reassemble. Lock the transfer in 4wd. Then spin the wheel manually to listen and feel for grinding with both the hub locked and unlocked. Compare with opposite wheel. If it sounds fine. Then under engine power at slow speeds where someone can walk beside it to listen.

 

Yes sir! Keep my big jack in the back, 2x4s, straps, my shovel, etc. Before the end of the year when i change my diff oil i plan to pull the third and get it welded for additional traction, but a hi lift to use as a come along would be nice.

Gf comes along and she's a good spotter too, has saved me from taking it too far many a times

the entire brake pedal assemble is different as the Boost is totally different. Dual diaphragm vs single.

 

I FINALLY got off my lazy ass and installed the front stainless brake hoses. Getting those factory hose clips lose was a PITA, at least until I figured out that it was far easier to tap them lose from the top of the engine bay with a long-ass screwdriver. Bolting them up and bleeding using my power bleeder (the one that works off an air compressor) was relatively much easier. The old fluid that came out resembled black tea. Pads were also replaced. The rotors are still in fair shape but I'll plan on replacing them by next spring.
