Has anyone purchases and used the black tacoma raised emblem for the tailgate that Toyota sells in their parts store? If so, how are they and any issues. I know there are many on Amazon and other truck sites but if you read the reviews there are always some that state they fade, chip, rust etc. There are no reviews on the Toyota site for this item. They are more expensive, but if they last, they would be worth it.

    Thanks,

    Bruce S

I have the factory added Tacoma inserts. They are great. Have had them on since Oct of 2020, 10,000Kms, and several washes and all kids of weather.

My Taco is garage kept and hand washed only… but… so far so good.

I put the OEM ones on my 2019 when it was new. Not garage kept, Alabama summers, & not washed as often as it should have been.
They still looked like new when I traded for my 2021 last May. No signs of coming loose, fading, or chipping.
I do advise you to clean the area with alcohol & dry thoroughly before applying them.

i have had thoughts of taking the tailgate to a body shop and have that stamped TACOMA cut out and replace with smooth metal.
but i only would if i could take it to Kindigit Designs to get it done!
and OMG some of the 22's are going to have raised letters on the sides of the bed, YUCK

I bought the "eyecatcher" black tailgate letters off Amazon - going on 3 years without issue, from -25 to 100F.

They're affordable and sexy - do it.

I bought vinyl inserts as the first mod for my truck in 17. Shortly after bought the thicker plastic inserts for when the vinyl inevitably failed. Vinyl is Still going strong! Kind of amazing tbh.

This^^^ they’re identical to the OEM for 1/4 of the price. No one can tell the difference and they look amazing. Literally the first thing I did to my Tacoma once I got it home

OEM letters here installed by the dealer. No troubles, look great and my truck is parked in the driveway in the Florida heat.

Here are the letters I purchased off of Amazon in May of 2017. They are 3d letters and the quality is amazing. Let me know and I can send some detailed pics of how they are now. They still look brand new. My truck is garage kept 75% of the time but it is my work truck so it still sees it's share of abuse.

I've had zinc and plastic. Zinc doesn't rust but pits like crazy, especially if salt is used on the winter roads and eventually looks like crap. Bought EyeCatchers off Amazon and they are raised "domed" plastic...superior in every way...IMHO

Its also all in the prepping, make sure you clean the surface of where youre applying the letters free of any oil.

Another vote for eyecatcher, takes seconds to get them on and as long as you clean the area well should last. Assuming you don’t get rear ended.
