That shit was such a pain in the ass. I still wish I went oem. The only benefits are the lower cost and the extra rubber backing, which I do feel helps with noise. And I guess the fact that if I destroy it, it’s cheaper. But overall it’s not worth it.

I knew I would have to cut holes, but this is nuts. I didn't get the rubber backing. I'm reusing the old jute insulation. Or I hope.

And looks like OEM is discontinued. So I'm off to cut shit.

Guess it beats the vinyl floor.

I don’t take as many pics of the RC car but so far I’ve

    1. upgraded the motor to brushless along with the accompanying esc
    2. Switched to lipo batteries
    3. Proceeded to break many parts, including front shock, swaybar link, and driveshaft.
    4. Replaced those with metal parts
    5. Oh god I’ve spent as much on aftermarket parts as the car
    6. This thing fucking RIPS.

This does close to 25 mph now and it’s so damn fun. I can’t keep the front tires down.

It's a fun rabbit hole for sure. I'm happy with where the truck is now and will just continue to enjoy it and fix stuff as I inevitably break it. This brushless/lipo combo is no freaking joke.

Fun little project for this morning. I already broke the plastic bumper up front so I made a new one out of 14 gauge steel. It’s not the prettiest thing but I didn’t want to spend hours on it.

I thought you'd like that. Shielding those lines is clever, I haven't seen it done before.

I just ordered the stuff he used, since I like that idea. Although I guess I don't really need it now lol. In 4lo, mine now starts cooling down a lot haha

I think there was discussion here recently of using the Amazon card and 5% back or whatever and I've been mooching of the benefits of the bezos bucks for a while now. happy to announce this purchase was funded by my previous poor financial decisions

I don't remember if I ever mentioned it but I finally applied and am exclusively using that on Amazon now. Took all of 15 seconds to get approved, too damn easy. Thanks bezos.

You should do a test to see how much of a difference the heat shield makes.

yeah they gave me one with like 6 months of credit history and I think I got a $200 statement credit promotion or something lol. Credit cards are nice since I just pay it off every month and get free money

Will do a test for sure. I think my previous temp issues were also kinda related to having massive toe out being harder to push forward, but I guess going overkill on cooling then having to block off some cooler fins or add in a thermostat isn't the end of the world

Ya know, if you're bored I could provide you with room and board up here in exchange for taking care of some things on my truck to-do list. Just thought I'd make the offer......

I'm going to remove the plastic and replace it with some brushed aluminum sheets, so basically white.

Yeah I went to pin the thermostat and it was pretty gunked up with that infamous @3pooches mud. I've been running it pinned for two weeks, including a rather hefty haul to the dump, and the second run was more normal trailer load. Haven't passed 189 in the pan, and 192 in the TC.

I know it's not 93 on the mercury these days, but figured I'd pull the pin, give it a real good scrub and rinse and see what's up.
I did hit something near 228 at TC at one point on FPK the weekend before pinning the 'stat...it was a very brief spike that quickly dropped back to 195-205 which was normal that cool day up on the mountain.

Order of importance should be #1 downshift until you lock the torque converter.

Never just drain the AT fluid from the pan. Disconnect the line coming out of the AT cooler and run the engine for a few seconds to pump fluid out then refill. Repeat until the fluid looks new.

I will be stealing the idea to insulate the lines next to the CAT. I used a similar product on my AC lines and it worked rather well. I like the air duct idea but you know that would be a mud scoop for most of us.

My experience is from overheating during beach driving or heavy inclines on 35s. Both of which you want the torque converter locked as much as possible.

My truck currently has 3 trans coolers aftermarket radiator and a oil cooler. I somehow found the only TRD off-road without a towing package.

Anyway I'm not going to go into the guys thread and disagree with him but just wanted to share. If your overheating on flat ground without a load then you have bigger problems.

There is a really good thread on here about ATs. I think the guy that posted it was gearhead or gear cruncher or something like that. I generally downshift until the temps come down to around 180f. All of my beach driving is done in 2nd gear and I'm in 2nd a lot when in the mountains on steep roads. Your transmission is generally happiest when rpms are over 3k when you are under a heavy load.
