I will never own anything made by Ford, GM, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Land Rover, Saab

I pretty much only buy Honda and Toyota...I might consider a Nissan but they tend to have some reliability issues. I really like some of Hyundai and Kia's new vehicles. They have really stepped up their game lately and their reliability has gotten really good in the last few years.

My dad rents a lot of cars since he travels 5 days a week and he says his favorite cars to rent are the Hyundai sonata and the Kia Sorento.

    1. Volvo, my mom has a 98 xc wagon and its a complete pos, CEL is always on for one reason or another, most expensive repair so far was a new transmission, for whatever reason my dad wont get rid of this damn thing, my folks dont go to the snow at all anymore, so they dont need an awd car, furthermore this pos has never gotten better than 17mpg

    2. Mercedes, newer ones dont even have dipsticks, and horrendous maintenance upkeep on them also

most other vehicles i like, i dont think Hyundai are all that bad, my ex gf had an 02 accent that the transmission was starting to slip on at 200k miles, luckily she got in an accident and was able to replace said car with a civic.

Which also reminds me, i will NEVER own any hondas with an automatic transmisison ever again, my 94 accord ex blew up at 165k, and an ex of mine had hers blow up at 175k on a 02 civic lx.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Dodge was first choice, but then Volvo.

In response to johnw, thought about that, wouldn't say "never", but it would take a lot, and I would take a Viper.

i actually like dodge rams just cause im 6' 6" and can fit into the single cabs without much of a problem, furthermore it is currently the only 1/2 ton truck you can order with a manual transmission.

Their current truck transmissions are excellent. Sure they sucked 10 years ago. What does that have to do with current vehicles?

-Pretty much anything "European". VW, BMW, MB, Audi.

-Anything Chrysler (and its little side fling Mitsubishi). Cheap crap. Cheap production, cheap, inferior parts. Tranny problems. Bitches to work on.

    - Nissan. Just can't do it after seeing 2 of their cars go down the road on fire.

ill echo that sentiment, neighbor has an 07 2500 cummins crew 4wd auto and his went out at 70k, another friend of my dads had an 04 dakota that also died at 100k

their autos blow which is why the only way id own a cummins is if it were a manual, and i prefer my vehicles that way .... only rig i would own with a manual that i will no longer consider due to slave cyl issues ive heard of is a 4.0l v6 powered ford anything ... and their 3.0ls just suck in general, so probably wouldnt get one of those with either trans.

x2, I would own a Jeep pre-Chrysler. Chrysler ruined Jeeps with the Wrangler.

My sonata started acting up at 95k in the tranny. As it turns out, I forgot to have it serviced the second time. had it done and reprogrammed and it was back to normal. Traded it (an 05 with 98k miles at that point) 3 months ago and got 1k under the private party value for it. I'm sure they took that out of my ass on the Tacoma's sticker price but it felt good to get a decent trade-in. I'll say again, though, that Sonata was a really good car. It still drove like brand new when I got rid of it, and did most of my driving in the city with the reckless abandon of a cab driver.

It's funny how some of the people who own American vehicles are in denial.

My next door neighbor for example. He only buys chrysler vehicles (he has a dodge ram, wife has a chrysler town&country minivan). When we talk about cars he always talks about how chrysler makes good vehicles and he hasn't had many problems with his. In the 9 months he has been my neighbor, He has replaced the entire AC system in his ram, Had the heater core catch on fire and burn the firewall.. replaced that. He has had it in the shop for transmission issues. His wife's town and country just had a new steering rack put in it. He also told me he had the rear end replaced a few years ago in the ram. His son is a mechanic so both of these vehicles get all the regular maintenance they need.

Here are cars myself and my family has owned and their issues.
    Parents vehicles
'85 Nissan pickup - zero issues, it was totalled.
'88 Honda accord - zero issues. Sold it because they needed more room.
'90 Jeep Cherokee Limited - parents got rid of it before any major issues however they took a bath on it when they sold it from the depreciation
'92 Mazda MPV minivan - no real issues, traded it for a chrysler town&country (worst mistake ever)
'97 Chrysler town&country. New steering rack, new steering column, two new axles, electrical problems galore, AC problems. They put $6,000 in repairs in it before getting rid of it.
'02 Ford expedition was fine till about 60,000 miles, then the coil packs started failing one by one, traded it after coil pack #4 went out for an '05 BMW X3.
'05 BMW X3 my mom still has this. Surprisingly the only failure was the battery at about 80k miles. Transmission is starting to act up at 125k miles. The only problem is the regular maintenance is expensive. $700 brake jobs suck!
'02 VW Passat 1.8T. - recalled for cam angle sensor. had an oil pump failure @ around 80k miles luckily nothing was damaged. My sister totalled it at 130k miles. The only other issue with it was the buttons started falling off the radio.

    MY CARS
'94 Honda accord lx auto - no issues at all. My dad drove it for 7 years then gave it to me when I turned 16. I had zero problems with it, totalled it @ 152k miles.
'97 Honda accord lx manual - I bought this car with 111k miles, sold it with 210k miles still ran like a top. Only issues I had was I had to replace the starter @ 130k miles, and I had a vaccum leak @ 175k miles (bad EGR gasket, $5 fix). 50k miles of that car were driven turbocharged with 12psi of boost daily on a bone stock motor. I took the turbo off at 175k miles compression was still 160psi across the board after 50k miles of turbocharging.

My dad got smart and bought an 07 tacoma because he liked mine so much.

I am defintely ANTI ANYTHING made by Chrysler Corporation. My sister had nothing but transmission problems in both of her Jeep Gran Cherokees. She also had excessive wind noise coming from the windshield in one of them.

My ex had a 1994 Plymouth Sundance that had transmission issues. Especially when it was very cold, she had to manually shift to get going.

Talking about Hyundai. My wife has had 3 Hyundai Sante Fe SUVs with no issues at all. Finally convinced her to get a bigger SUV so she bought a 2010 Honda Pilot. It has been a great vehicle so far.

My only beef with a vehicle has been with a 1996 Mazda B4000 pickup. I use to go 4x4ing with it until I blew the tranmission around 60,000 miles. Got the transmission supposedly repaired but it was never the same again. Even though I quit taking the truck offroad, I had to replace the clutch three times due to excessive slippage then finally got rid of it in 2009 and bought me my second Scion xB wagon which is my primary commuting vehicle.
