Just bought myself a new 3rd gen over the holiday weekend! Except it’s just an SR with the TSS off-road package. Nothing special… 2x4 with a 4 cylinder. Reason being is I had a first gen that I was ready to get out of because of the repair costs killing me, but I didn’t have the money for a TRD 4x4 Off-road just yet.

My plan is to upgrade in a couple of years, so my plan is to buy some plug n play upgrades that I can easily take off and slap on the bad boy I’m saving up for. Headlights, wheels, grille.. that type of stuff.

What are some recommendations y’all can give me?

even a lift can be swapped over pretty easily, just make sure to keep all of your factory parts if you plan on ditching the prerunner

    intermittent wiper mod?

SR Tacomas are Good trucks. I have one. I really like my 2.7 combined with the 5 speed manual.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    Drive it
    Get to know it.
Figure out what it doesn't do for you that you wish it did.
Then decide what mods are most appropriate.

It's just for looks right now. Like i said it's RWD and a 4 cylinder so it doesn't do much aside from get me from point A to B. The goal is to get all the cosmetic plug and play stuff I like that doesn't really modify the truck itself for trade-in purposes (cutting, wiring, etc. ). I'm keeping the OEM to swap out the aftermarket stuff for right before I drive to the dealership to trade it in for the dream truck

    FWIW:
Keep it as is. Meticulously maintain it. Save your pennies for the dream truck.
What you buy now to enhance looks (in your opinion) will be worthless and not likely to transfer when that dream truck becomes a reality.

I agree with this, you will also most likely end up wanting a different type of whatever you bought when you get your new truck. Get by with this one for now, then go crazy and fulfill your dream build
