Universal TPMS vs OEM

I am taking my 21 TRD sport to get wheels and tires tomorrow. The plan was for the shop to use universal sensors on the the new wheels and program them to the truck. But I saw a few posts other places saying I would be better off swapping them from the old wheels.
I planned on keeping the old wheels and tires in case I ever needed them. Is there any real downside to using the universal sensors?

 

Have them clone the new TPMS modules to match your existing TPMS modules. That way if you switch wheels there won't be any programming need.

 

Had new tires put on at 8k miles in early 17. Tire shop broke one of my factory units. 53k miles later and over 5 yeas and no issues on a universal tpms.

So no issues imo.

 

Autel is good, got them off of Amazon. I used them for my aftermarket wheels as i sold the oem wheel/ tires with TPMS sensors. Just need to buy or borrow someones tool to set them. Some tire places may have the right one.

I have had no problems with Autel sensors, in two different OEM Toyota wheels, that I cloned to my OEM set.
