Looking for a good, relatively inexpensive moving company in the Stamford area (or nearby), anyone have contacts?

We moved ~1 mile from our old apartment to our current apartment in 2019 and paid $600 to a moving company, we're moving to a house now that's ~3 miles away and have maybe 10% more stuff and have been quoted $1500-2500... seems insane.

inflation + no one working=$$$$ if you want shit done by competent people.

I'd rent a uhaul and call in some debts. Or see if anyone in your apartment will lend a hand to at least load up.

Honestly, everyone I'm close with is extremely busy (as am I with work/school/side jobs), and with my back surgery nonsense and not wanting to risk re-injury lifting heavy stuff I'm happy to just pay people to do it. If the prices are reasonable it's worth the money to keep my sanity and have the time to focus on other stuff.

I'd look for a smaller local company then. The old big guys are all booked and probably demanding. We couldn't find anyone to do a roof for us until next year, went on the town page and asked and got a local guy who just started his own company doing it. Materials are expensive still, but hes not that bad and he was hungry to get started.

You probably don't live in a town of under 700 like me tho, so might be harder to get a trusty reference.

Got the rest of the old deck down this past weekend. Prior owner built the deck right over the siding; was improperly flashed, has a couple massive holes from a prior dryer vent assuming.

Debating on moving the current dryer vent direct through the foundation vs the current location thru the rim joist and directly under the deck boards. Not a fan of putting holes in the foundation but this would be better because it wouldnt be discharging an inch below the deck boards. It would also allow me to fix the janky siding setup the prior owner had going that I havent fixed yet.

Plan would be to get the new dryer vent installed. Rip out old deck headers, cut and remove the siding that sits directly behind the headers, cut out a couple circles out of scrap 2x10s/sheathing, set them in the voids in the rim joist and sheathing and epoxy them in. So much clean up before the actual rebuilding starts.

Will probably pull up the first two rows of siding that sit above the deck and will do a layer of Ice and Water going from those runs of siding down to the foundation, before setting the new headers in place and of course proper flashing to keep everything good going forward.

First load of materials arrived and should keep me busy for a bit. Everything for new headers, one thirty foot double layer beam, one thirty foot triple layer beam, posts and footings.

Do you have a casement window close by?

I removed one of the glass panes from the basement window, replaced it with a piece of plywood and run my dryer vent that way.

Hoping that hernia I got fixed in november doesnt burst through the mesh. I have been going solo on this so far. Another little one on the way, due in January so the misses cant help. My pops had shoulder surgery in February so hes half useless. Its going to be interesting getting those beams set.

We do, its about fifteen feet to the left on another basement wall. Something definitely worth considering.
