I can confirm @tonered's statement. Mat @ OV Tune said the exact same in a message after I inquired about the stand alone software 2 weeks ago. I had a second hand OV Tune Tactrix I used to flash an ECU TSB. Purchased vF Tuner stand alone software licence for $199. Decided it was finally time to flash KDMax.

Reach out to Mat on Zendesk and inquire, he will send you an invoice after confirming you do in fact have a genuine Tactrix.

KDMax tuners only use Tactrix purchased thru ovtune or direct from Tactrix. I have a spare cable i purchased from Tactrix. If your looking to tune with your own system i would only use the Tactrix cables. The cheap Amazon or ebay cables will get you into trouble!

I know that but if you don't have the cable already, it's cheaper to get the bundle from them.

None that I know about. But, I'm just a customer like other folks. I still am finding things out from other folks at times. Hahaha!

I can also confirm the vFTuner cable is a Tactrix but it does come with a zippered case from VFTuner where getting direct doesn't (at least the one I got didn't). Heed the advice. I bought a Tactrix first then bought VFTuner not knowing they were the same cable, so I have an extra as well. Keep meaning to put it up on eBay but I'm lazy.

If you already have a Tactrix, you can contact Mat from OVtune on Zendesk and he will send you an invoice via email for just the software. I purchased a second hand OVtune Tactrix to flash an ECU TSB and finally decided to flash KDMaxx tune. Software licence only is $199.

Does anyone know how to update ecu (specifically 04c20 to 04c21) without techstream or taking it to dealer?

Those are the only two ways unless you meet up with a local. See my Flash Feelers thread.

I know this might have already been asked and I'm sorry. I'm still new to my Tacoma.
How would I know if I have the latest tsb?
    Btw it's a 2017

curious, has anyone been successful with asking the dealership to perform the necessary TSB updates?

I have 2 issues that 2 TSB's will fix... last time I went to the dealer, they didn't bother checking the TSB against an issue I was telling them about; little shutter at lower RPM higher gears.

Yes. Some folks have had success. Mainly AT folks, but also a few lucky MTs.

The purpose of this thread is to avoid the frustration that you are experiencing. But if you want to keep trying, take a copy of the TSB that you believe applies along with you. That way, you can try the polite route and then whip out the physical version if needed.

Note that 04B05 is noted to be out in the wild also, if you have an AT. It should be a pretty major change once we get at TSB and software for it.

No. There is no CC issue with the 2016s / 2017s. My best guess is that it will be a calibration like 04B33 on the 2019s and should be a big update for folks.
