I know there’s been a ton of these threads, but figured i’d post anyways. I’ve got a 16 TRD Sport with FN FX Pro wheels. I’ve been using Bridgestone Duelers since 16k miles and currently at 44k they’re down to 3/32nds (regular rotations and highway miles). My biggest complaint with them is that:
    1) They look like minivan tires on my truck (Size and tread).
    2) They wore down quickly.

I don’t offroad with my tacoma pretty much at all. I mainly commute about 60 miles a day (highway). My biggest wish list item is more aggressive sidewall without compromising too much on mpg or ride quality since I mostly drive highway miles. I’ve looked at these tires so far:
    1) Nitto Ridge Grappler (heavy?)
    2) K02 (not as good in rain?)
    3) Falken Wildpeak AT3 (balancing issues?)
    4) Michelin Defender M/S (“minivan tires”)

What tires would you guys recommend? I don’t personally know anyone who uses AT tires besides people using K02s. I really like the agressive look of the grapplers but am nervous about the weight of the tire. I’m currently 265/65/17 and was looking to go to 265/70/17 (only step up that won’t rub without a lift I think???).

    Thanks!

Falkens were highly recommended to me by my friends. Finally pulled the trigger myself and got x4 of them installed today. Haven't driven enough on them yet to provide an honest review of them but my initial impression was they look great and feel heavier (my old tires were 235/75/16 so duh) but I really like them so far

Everyone told me to avoid ko2s for a multitude of reasons including driving in the rain. I'm in Oregon and it rains 10 months a year nonstop

Good to know about the wildpeaks! Their weight isnt too bad coming from my Duelers.

I'm sorta where you are, I won't lift my daily again, but I still run aggressive tires simply due to the gravel roads I run.

I don't drive a ton everyday. Mostly just around town and occasional trip on a weekend. I don't commute anywhere daily so I felt I could splurge a little more on bigger tires for looks mostly lol.

I ran Michelin Defenders on my Corolla when I had it and they lasted nearly 75-80k miles haha. The only compromise i’m considering is maxing out my tire size without rubbing (I think its 265/70/17??) and doing Michelin. The sidewall is a perk for me but its mainly that my current tires don’t fill in the wheel well enough.

I can’t add anything but experience with K02 I live around Olympia Washington. Rains all the time. I currently have a set on both my trucks. It’s the only tire Iv ran on the work truck for years. Never any issues that you read and hear about.. I have about 40k miles on the set on the Tacoma and I’ll be replacing them with the same tire.

I gotta say that the Michelin tires will treat you well. I had a set on my 1999 Tacoma

I find my Ridge grapplers in LT load range do the job well. Not heavy like a C or E and they look great. They also perform great on anything unpaved.

Have you noticed a loss of power or a large mpg hit with them vs stock?

I vote for the Michelin based on what you said your commute is. They are good on the road, comfy and quiet.

im running falken wildpeaks and love them but I did lose mpg and they are rougher ride. Even though I’m running 265 70 17 in a SL size.

I’m almost leaning towards the Michelin, just in a bigger size to fill in the area more.

Haha yep. It has 2 different sidewall designs depending how you flip it if I remember.

Wildpeaks usually run heavier than Ridge Grapplers.
They're some of the heaviest tires and also run larger in diameter than other brands at the same size.

Consider the Michelin AT2 tires, they drive great and look a more aggressive than defenders. Obviously not quite ko2 or duratrac aggressive but enough to look good on a truck.

I had installed Continental TerrainContact AT on my 17. They are great. I bought them through Discount Tire. Ride is very quiet and 60k warranty.
