This is one of my least favorite repeat jobs. Replacing thread inserts.

Not going to like that, not even a little bit. Looks like a LOT of no fun at all. Are the helicoil threads in good shape? What about plugging the holes and re-drilling/threading?

It’s melted plastic on it, it goes on an extruder. It has heaters in it and a lot of other stuff gets bolted to it. Got the first one out, luckily I don’t have to replace all 16, only 8. Last photo is old one and new one, M22 OD, M16 ID.

Most of them are in good shape, these left two are leaking and they won’t them replaced again. You can tell they’ve been using too long of bolt cause the marks in the bottom but the customer is always right……..

First one gave me a fit, second one came out easier. Using a die grinder with a carbide bit to cut where the locking pins are.

So I did a thing this morning.
I have had a Central dial indicator for like forever.
And during that time the housing assembly got loose.
Being loose would make the unit .008 to .010 out.
So sending it back was not a option because I was using it everyday
And was told by central to just replace it.. oooooook.

so over the years I was able to still use this compensating to the loose housing.

Today I attempted to disassemble this antique unit.
So, like I thought , it was impossible to remove the dial frame because the guide pins
We’re seized. So in typical redneck manner I took an alternate route.
Using a razor blade I was able to work the glass out of the dial.
Then, using a set of small screwdrivers, I was able to bend the indicator face and
pop it out of the housing.
I got those screws tightened and readjusted the short pointer back to 0 as it went out of cal by slipping The gears.
Then, had to bend and reinstall the face and flatten the face against the dial frame and secure it.
    Reinstalled the glass.
So, it looks like it got run over by a bus however, it’s tight and accurate again.
Not that I may not use it much anymore.
