They must have fixed the problem. My second Maytag was purchased around 1996. It used a plastic mesh to filter out the food particles. The mesh was heat welded to the filter mechanism and would tear at the joint. At first the tear would be small and only a few food particles would get through. We'd scratch our heads as to why the dishes weren't clean, run the cycle again and everything would be fine. After a while washing the dishes in the machine was a waste of time. Of course I only figured this out after the second washer started doing the same thing. I bought the Bosch because it had a metal filter.

Not too shabby for never having built a fence before.

Really cant wait to keep going up the side. But unfortunately money is not an endless resource.
    :annoyed:

Got quite the new look though.

    A thing or two...
Looks good. Did you concrete the posts in or just bury them? Are you going to apply water sealer or stain?

Dug down about 20" and used roughly 30 lbs of sakrete for each post. Ill let it dry out and then seal it probably next spring when I hopefully have all the fence done (160' ish of new, 100' existing)

Took out the camode, tile & Hardi board today. My hands & back are shot, thankfully the ol lady had a fantastic dinner & craft beer waiting for me when I got out of the shower. Tomorrow I'll start on the soffit, dunno if I'll finish it since this place is built like a tank with all 2x6 framing (even on the soffit!).

Screw cable, and the big stations shut down Locast. Trying a different approach. Picked up stations from 85 miles away but not the ones we wanted which have antennas 25 miles away.

So a little note of warning, the holding power of a stuck drawer slide vs. 1 screw 3/4" from the edge of a 1/2" particle board drawer bottom. The drawer slide was MUCH stronger. ha, particle board gave way and I fell backward reefing on it and nearly went thru the shower door. Starting to feel like Tim Taylor on this one. I tried the blue tape/CA glue trip and a couple screws and I was able to out muscle the slide this time.

Looks like with out the drawer front to stop it, the draw wheel bearing just slid past the end of the slide rail and hung up. Anyways, she's all fixed up now, and I just cut and painted a piece of fiberboard and glued it over the drawer bottom to cover up the blown out particle board. It's lipstick on a pig, but that pig is heading to market so I'm done caring about it!

    I raffed.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++

OK after a few months our water system is all sorted. We have a relatively shallow well with medium hard Ca/Mg - don't mind drinking that but causes build up. Plus we have some sulfur (smell) which is easily eliminated with oxidation. Other than that the water tastes and tests out fine.

It just took some fiddling and trial and error - I have the passive 02 from air system all working, plus I have a KCl instead of NaCl on the softener side for normal ion exchange. Potassium chloride is friggen expensive, but it's just the wife and I, and we just don't blow through a lot of salt. Sodium is a poison to plants and too much is not good for humans. It's worth it to me.

    Tanks........left to right

Well pressure tank (control switches and valves below)
Salt holding tank (front lower) - two sacks of potassium chloride, brine automatic
Soft water resin media, controller and such (rear center) paid a dude for this, with install, but was very reasonable and the company was very cool
Air/O2 media tank (right) FREE - people left it behind, was 100% bypassed, previously used potassium permanganate as oxidizer, no need for such a strong oxidizer, then I went air pump inject to the media, LOUD and blew GFCI, turns out passive air and one way valve is all that is needed.

Got most of my timbers in now.

We framed the roof over the formal entry, installed one of the load bearing timbers on either end of carport so we could install the carport trusses and I just need to finish up the last couple timbers in the carport and we can complete the carport gable end.

Final roof section to finish up is some exposed 3x9 fir rafters around the kitchen bump out then we can complete roof sheathing and peel & stick.

With morning visits to the maternity ward, 7ish hours working from home, a couple hours of demo, then evening visits to the maternity ward I'm flat exhausted. But I'm getting thru the demo. Today I finished exposing the forbidden cotton candy around the tub. Doubled up 5/8 drywall all around makes it slow progress...but next up is the soffit! No, the dark spot on the right is not mold. I'm not really sure what it is but it's where the soap caddy poked thru the wall. Looked like Helen Keller cut the opening for it.

Ok, off to bed for my 4 hour nap now.

    Hello there,
the misses and I recently bought a home that needs a little TLC and hopefully can pick up some good tips and tricks in this thread.
First up, we had a beat of a fireplace that took up more real estate that we wanted. Looking to replace the firebox and pipe? with something smaller but was hoping someone could point me in the right direction on making the pipe? smaller in the ceiling. (Is it called a pipe? Funnel? Tube? any help is appreciated).

we'd like to stick with a wood fire and i'm assuming the metal would be safer than the wood?

You should be able to go down to 6" pipe, looks like its bigger.

Yes it would be safer for the metal 2x4

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
The size of the pipe is dictated by the unit you purchase. The unit will also dictate whether it can enclosed, how close it can be to the wall, if there should be any backer on the wall, etc. Where the pipe breeches the wall is called a thimble.

I would suggest going to a hearth store and looking at the units themselves. The salesperson should be able to tell you exactly what and how to install it. They may even provide services.
