I wonder if it has to do with the clamps... The F150 bed (like the 1st gen Tacoma and UNLIKE the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacoma) doesn't have the rails along the sides to bolt down to and need a clamp that goes around the top of the lip of the bed rails OR drilled and bolted through the top of the bed sides.

Got another trip coming up so I've been working on a couple projects that I just wrapped up today.

First I built a portable shower. I didn't want to deal with pressurizing a container so I went with a small electric pump based on this guy's design, with modifications. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aOeKUOG0Us&ab_channel=DoingStuff

Rather than use a cache battery I hardwired it to the 12V system, with a quick disconnect. I also added an on/off switch since there wouldn't be one in absence of the cache battery.

I like the slimmer profile of this more than the 6gal Aquatainer I've got now. It fits perfectly in my cabinet. For now I plan to bring both and use the Aquatainer for drinking water, then I can refill the shower from streams or whatever if needed. I have an old solar shower that I can lay in the sun, then dump into the jerry can.

If this works out well I may build a second one with a cache battery and an electric faucet for to use for potable water. With the cache battery I could use it on my camp table without dealing with wires.

This will be nice as I sometimes end up going many days without a shower on trips. Should be able to get 2-3 showers out of a single fill.

The second project was to build a shelf across the front of the camper where there's some wasted space below the overhang. I figure I can stuff things like a puffy jacket or other small items up there. I still need to bolt each front corner up to the rivnut above it to eliminate movement there. It's just a 1x6 board with a 1x3 screwed to the front, mounted to the rivnuts using 4" L brackets.

here is a picture if my mounts with using the spacer board SP made for using on my alum bed rails vs factory.

I have had to redo them once since my pick up date. and i made sure the bottom flange and block in the rail where square and not angled as i could make them before doing the top bolt. I will also note you can torque it too much to bend the slots on the camper so i make sure i am watching that a better mount i think is needed for those of us taking harder trails. But all around since i re did the mounts i haven’t had any problems.

Looks similar to how mine are. I don’t like that you can bend them when torquing. This also means that hard driving could bend it. Which I’m sure was the issue for me

nice, I have parts with a pump to do something similar that I can connect to any water source. It would plug into any power source via connections, Anderson, or a 12 socket. depends on which one I go with. What are you building on the shelf and what's on it a temp gauge?

After doing several long 1-3 week trips the past few years those hours here and there are awesome! Especially when in the desert and hot climats.

I have done a decent amount of off pavement stuff but not really what y'all call "wheeling". Nothing loose or feels like it's compromised. I do understand what everyone says about the brackets though.

yah also if you look at any 3rd gen the height of the bed is 1" taller and no or less chance of the 2 parts coming in contact. I think that helps. A better kit part or redesign would be ideal. Def seems all 2nd gen complaints. The design was an afterthought to the 3r gen original design.

That was the old camper and one of the first ones. They had issues with it hitting the cab. He didn’t want to release that one to the public. The blue one that’s on his now should be the corrected version that he took to the CO expo if I’m not mistaken.

Molle Panel Madness. I'm interested in how people are actually using their molle panels, and where they are placing them. I bought two. At first I placed them at the rear of the side doors. They got in my way, so I repositioned them at the front of the side doors. They got in my way, so I repositioned them at the front window. I like this better, but they're kind of hard to reach.

Also, what exactly are you attaching to them, and how are you attaching? I spent a long time looking for actual molle bags and "holders" and ended up using bungee cords and some QuickFist thingy holders, with mixed results. What are you guys and gals doing? Pics appreciated.

    Thanks.

If you ever want to sell one let me know.
I'd attach a fire extinguisher, that's about it. Maybe first aid kit as well.

    Where would you position it?

Funny enouugh, I was scrolling through the thread to find a good view and found this. (Ignore the yellow, that's from original post)
That's what I'd do. Yeah, I guess you sacrifice the second half of the panel, but would be worth it for a clean fire extinguisher install.

That's why I wasn't interested in molle panels. I use the side doors a lot and don't want them blocked. Also don't want my view out the rear window blocked. I may mount a few things using the rivnuts along the inside of the camper, but I'll be mounting things horizontally to keep them out of the way.

I had bought a Renogy bluetooth monitor but the thing doesn't work at all. So I got this. It's pretty easy to install. The only annoyance is the backlight stays on when there is a current draw - which is basically all the time. Need to make a cover for it.

haha isn't the Renogy one like 200 or is that victron?
That's annoying about the back light. Luckily I got a solar panel since my truck sits on street 80% of the month.

The victron one is the $200 one. No way I'd pay that much. The renogy one was $40 or 50. I figured it would play nice with the other equipment since it is all Renogy. But it doesn't like the charge controller I got - it has the solar and DC-DC input for alternator charging all in one.

I'm going to mount propane, fire extinguisher, and prob some other little things to my molles (upon arrival). Prob on the left side door as I don't open it much since it's got the smaller bench - and it'll be out of commission fully when i install the fireplace chimney.

also check out the victron smartshunt - works well and is bluetooth only.
