nope, there’s a shop here in Minnesota that only builds with flat stock, and the boats end up just as strong since the fiberglass and epoxy fill all the joints and gaps anyways. I figured I’d try it this way first, and if I don’t like the look, sell it and build it the other way next time.

Also, running 200 strips through my janky router table sounded like a giant pain in the butt.

Well, I finally finished an order from my sister for three bookcases. One was delivered a few months ago, and now the other two are done. Fun times!

Did some work with the new Laserpecker today. It seems different woods will need different settings. I tried it on some pine and used the 100% power and 100% depth setting. The top attempt was set at 65% depth and 100% power. I will need to dial it back a little from the 100% depth setting. I’m thinking maybe use a negative image of this picture and it would work better. Also put the original picture I was working from.

Very nice work. Like the cherry/figured maple combination, nice and light looking design. Did you cut the cove on the bottom side of the top with a shaper or a router bit? What is the finish?

I used the table saw to cut the coves. It’s a bit un-nerving at first, but it works very well. I used General’s oil based wipe on poly, 3 coats.

The adventures in steam bending continues. So far this is a really good way to make very expensive kindling. I was able to get two complete sets formed without snapping, and one glued up. Fingers crossed when I pull it from the mold tomorrow it holds up. If these hold together then honestly the shaping and planking sound like a breeze, looking forward to actually seeing some progress.

for anyone trying to bend kiln dried wood, my first suggestion is don’t, but if it’s all you can find, steam it once for your needed amount of time (I was doing 20 minutes for 1/4” pieces) while it’s still hot put it in a tube to soak for 4 days, initially with as hot of water as you can get, and weight them down so they’re fully submerged After 4 days steam it again and then try to do your bending. After making 6 different sets of these, this process has been the only one that’s allowed me to get one glued without snapping it.

Damn, are equipment prices going crazy? I listed a used jointer at a pretty high price expecting to have to come down a bit, my first offer was higher than I'd hoped to settle on, and the next guy offered full price!

Apparently I lucked out, my new and upgraded jointer was a pretty good price :)

@brow I've heard that air dried wood or green wood even is easier to steam and bend. I use air dried wood almost exclusively and I find it to be less splintery and brittle when worked. Nice work, glad you got some of them bent.

Just a quickie after work yesterday. Need a curtain rod to hide the desk under the loft in my Betty's sewing room.
    Some maple scraps.......

I've been collecting the drawers from old singer treadle sewing machines. Got a few from a friend in a trade but they are kinda rough. I pulled all the nails out of them and I'm re assembling them. I need to make 2 new bottom boards and 2 ends. Scrounge up some wood for that.
    20210914_193200.jpg
My plan is when I get enough of these drawers to make an apothecary cabinet out of them for my Betty's sewing room to store sewing supplies in. Still need more drawers, I think I'll need 16 total, 4 rows of 4. Maybe more, dunno.
It should be kind of cool and unique.

What the average price for those drawers? I buy the machines just for the bases so I can make tables. I sell the drawers for $5 each.
