That makes me shutter after seeing that thread posted by the guy who had nothing visible nor stolen yet all his windows were smashed in broad daylight. I remember the feeling, my old '90 pathfinder got broken into when I lived two doors down from an NHL player (i.e. a really nice neighborhood), they uninstalled my aftermarket CD player, took my ray bans, and 1st gen ipod touch, in freaking 2016... and broke the rear door vent glass to get in. That's as expensive as a new windshield...

I'm glad I live in a place where I don't have to worry about someone stealing my tailgate. It's hard for me to believe this is a thing.

Right? It implies there is a market for them but geeze, what is it? (especially on newer models...)

Selling them to people who've had their tailgates stolen (or their insurance companies).

Wonder if they have VINs on them anywhere. Might be better served using a GPS tracker in your tailgate rather than your truck

yup. thats why i dont have any molle rack with bags inside. makes people want to see in those bags. I never leave anything in my truck visible. nothing in the doors, nothing in center console nothing hanging from my visors. nothing. ONLY thing they may want is the dash cam but i also park in the garage so i think im pretty safe. Knock on wood

You're not allowed to do any maintenance on your car in the lot? That seems strange unless it's a super high end complex where most don't do their maintenance work anyway.

They all have locking tailgates, older models and possibly some new lower trims don't have powered locking tailgate. Mine does not, definitely has a lock on the gate though.

This is pretty standard because of people changing oil, fluids that can damage the asphalt, pollute the ground water, etc. But I can’t see someone bitching about a cosmetic mod or changing a tire, etc.

I have a 20 SR with tailgate lock. I'm curious what configuration doesn't have it, SR AC utility maybe?

Yeah I guess I didn't think of it, I only ever lived in crappy college town apartments so it wasn't really an issue.

Barf hit the nail on the head. It’s usually to keep the parking lot clean. I’m gonna do it. IDGAF they can write me a nasty email - it’ll be done before I read it anyways. :p

That section comes off pretty easily. You need to remove the cover around the radio first (both vents) and then start at the vent to the left of the steering wheel and start pulling, it covers the left vent all the way to the end of the gauge cluster. Only hard part is getting it out around the steering wheel and be very careful not to touch the gauge cluster plastic because it scratches very easily.

Park on the other side of the complex when you do it so they don’t know where you live
