    Really hard to see, other than brown plumage. Your 3 options around that size would be broad-winged hawk, cooper's hawk (male = smaller sex, female too big, brown = juvenile plumage), and sharp-shinned hawk (female = bigger sex, male is itsy bitsy, brown = juvenile plumage).

    Given the landscape/habitat, sharp-shinned is unlikley.

    Broad-wings are migrating south now (dont breed or overwinter in your state, just migrate through, especially in the eastern portions of Montana), but they typically form "kettles" during migration and during winter (found in large groups). So possible, but ......

    Cooper's most likely from a statistical standpoint.

    Not that you asked, but I am inflicting my help.

    Distant memory.

    I remember a news story from years ago about some people got in a car accident. They were trapped in the car and couldn't free themselves. They also couldn't directly be seen by passers by. A Wham cassette was playing this album on auto reverse until they were found. Something like 12 to 18 hours of solid Wham.... :rockband:
