Anyone getting the new BF Goodrich trail terrains

I know they are new but just checking to see if anyone has committed and got a set.

Seem to be a Ko2 lite essentially. only see 265/70/16 available at the time of this post.

I would like for more sizes to be available

The KO2 is already terrible off road I wouldn't want a worse tire.

Looks like your typical brand new truck "off-road" tire, a rugged looking all season for trucks that can't just have the standard P tires like the mini-van right next to it.

I suspect they're junk like the KO2's.

The original KO's were a much better tire in my experience.

Love my Cooper ST MAX's though.

Why do you dislike the KO2 so much?

 

KO2's aren't THAT bad offroad. They are just an old design from the 70's with mild updates.

This looks like a good move for BFG/Michelin as they don't really have a decent mild all terrain. Now they can move in on Goodyear and take up some more of the segment.

That said these don't check any boxes for me.

 

Disliking the KO2 AT for something it’s not, makes no sense. The KO2 is not a dedicated off road tire. It’s right in the name… ALL Terrain. It’s implied that the KO2 is reasonably mild mannered on-road, but still capable in light off-road conditions.

 

MF'ers were dummy heavy, would not balance or stay balanced, loud for a AT, (hell my hybrid MT/AT Maxx's are quieter), they were wildin' in the rain, and mediocre off road, especially poor in the sand and mud and dried out and got hard too quickly, they also chunked a lot from even the smallest rocks and the only puncture and de-bead I've ever had were with them.

The "stone ejectors" were a joke, things collected rocks like the weird kid in 5th grade.

I will say they were a slight improvement over the original KO's in snow which is what they marketed so hard but I see snow on average for two weeks every two years so I don't care about slightly better snow performance.

I also didn't like that the side bite tread pattern (which is useless by the way) wasn't symmetrical, from the left side of the truck they went one way from the right side of the truck they went the other, but that's just personal preference.

Another personal preference annoyance was that every damn truck seems to have them and I suspect now it's not because they're good but because every damn truck seems to happen, when they came out they looked cool as heck and they were the only thing that looked like them.

And let's be honest, appearance is most of truck modding for 99% of the guys on the road.

Don't buy into the hype.

My next tires will probably be Milestar Patagonia's in 35x12.50.

Currently running 285 75 17 "34's." they're actually the same height has my buddy's ProComp 35x12.50 but his are much wider, they're short and wide for a 35 12.50 and my 34's are tall for a metric 34.

 

True, but my Coopers are also AT's and they're phenomenal off-road in everything I have thrown at them and still mild mannered on road.

And frankly I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the second generation of a good proven tire to be better than the first and I must say I was sorely disappointed that it wasn't in fact it was considerably worse than the original KO.

Oh! Plus the KO2'a wore really quickly for an E-Load!

I’ve had several sets of KO2s, they’ve done great on trails, in the snow, in the rain. They weren’t loud in the sightless and they lasted a solid 60K miles. To say they’re “junk” is a total crap statement

 

I've been eyeballin' those ST Maxx for my new rig. I've had several set of Discover AT3 XLT's and they've been awesome. Started in on those after literally hundreds of thousands of miles on numerous sets of the old KO's that just got shittier and shittier with OOR issue, hardening compound, fast dry rot. I've been done with BFG's for a decade at least.

What kind of mileage are you achieving with the Coopers? I've heard as much as with the AT3 but that's been 3rd hand info.

 

I agree the second gens don’t seem as good as the first. I’ve had both. The KO2s added a more aggressive look with more sidewall tread, but seem wear faster.

What evidence do you have to prove that there's not something better? Have you ever run another tire other than the stock ones and the KO2s?

I don't think there's any need to prove my personal experience and opinion especially not to someone who's obviously super loyal to a brand for no reason, I mean I can understand wanting to defend your purchase but bruh, you're like borderline attacking me here over my opinion.

But if you really want to know...

I've had five different sets of tires on this truck and I had three different sets on my last, I've tried many different brands patterns sizes and types so I think I've got a good enough sample size to formulate a solid opinion.

The KO2's were my 3rd set, and the set I wheeled the most with, after my Coopers now that is then my OG KO's would be the next most miles on.

Still got the KO2's, can't get rid of them because everyone knows they're junk, but you seem to fanboy real hard so if you drank the koolaid and think they're the best you're welcome to come buy them $250 full set half tread all yours.



Don't be brand loyal, the KO2's are a solid miss.

 

I run K02’s on my Silverado which I use primarily for towing and highway trips along with some graded fire roads. I’m on my second set, the first set last ~80K Miles. I run 33’s Load Range E. They work great on that truck.

I also run 33” K02’s on the rear of my off-road car and agree, they’re not great in the sand.

There's too many factors to accurately determine mileage, but right now highway I'm getting about 18, mixed driving I'm closer to 16.5, but I have a modified intake, exhaust, running on 34s with stock gearing, and my truck is heavy all armored up, manual trans. I did notice putting the snorkel on gave me about a half to one mile per gallon boost as did leaving my camper shell on also gave me another half to one mile per gallon, and I get about another half to one MPG when using ethanol free fuel which I try to stick to.

I definitely like the Coopers that I have, but word of warning, I probably won't get another set, or if I were you a new set as Goodyear (IIRC) just bought them out and apparently they have made some formula changes and I've not been super happy with Goodyear.

 

Hating on ko2s isn’t a personality trait bro. For what their designed for the ko2s are fine. Way quieter in the highway than my duratracs or st Maxx were. Tougher than the duratracs as well. Didn’t do great in mud but were adequate in sand and snow. Got 60k out of my set with rotation. Also the asymmetrical lugs on the side are designed that way for a reason.

You were the one demanding I defend my opinion.

I never said they haven't been good to most people, truth be told most people probably only ride around on the street and if or when they do trails, it's realistically just unimproved fire roads, that to me is not a trail, but I'm sure the KO2s do just fine like that for most folks.

I'm not trying to gatekeep, but I don't think that kind of terrain is a good determining factor for the capability of a tire, I love running with guys on those kinds of things, but it's just not challenging to me personally.

Defending them isn't a personality trade either, we can both play this game. I never said I was hating on them, and I don't know where you get the idea that it's my personality to not like them, I gave them an honest genuine try and now I'm giving you my honest genuine opinions with my personal experience, your mileage may vary.

If you have a bad take expect to be called out for it, especially considering there are plenty of other people who have experience with that tire. Hating something because it’s popular is not a legitimate grievance. The ko2 is fine. It’s not the best tire but it’s also not “terrible”. You can’t make untrue claims and get annoyed when people call you out.
