Anyone have experience with LTL freight deliveries? (rock sliders)

Should be getting some rock sliders in via LTL freight shipped by SAIA. I was wondering if I or a household member needs to be present when they deliver it since it is unlike ups or fedex, and if there is any strings attached with unloading the freight from the delivery truck (ive heard stories where they charge like 50 to use the lift gate?) This is my first time so im unfamiliar with the process. The retailer hasint really given me any details about the delivery process other than that it has been shipped and its on the way.

 

Usually they need a signature and delivery will be TBD

 

LTL usually likes to have a signature but with the pandemic that is being waved with a lot of them. They should call you and let you know when they have a truck in the area and when. Some carriers will run a box truck for home deliveries and group them to save time.

 

LTL freight requires a signature unless you contact your local delivering terminal and sign some paperwork waiving them from liability and allowing them to deliver with no signature.

 

With some carriers their obligation is simply to get the item to the end of the box. The driver is not obligated to unload - that's your responsibility. Lift gate service almost always costs more and usually must be pre-arranged with the carrier (so the item can be loaded onto truck with a lift gate). Some drivers are very cooperative, others can sometimes have an attitude. They are NOT like UPS or FedEx.

 

when i purchased the product it said "free shipping" on retailers website so not sure whats included lol.

 

I got an LTL from BulletProof Fab yesterday.
Yesterday, because UPS didn't respect the pre-authorization that I had already filled out on the UPS website on Wednesday.

In my experience, Signature required.

 

Yup signature required unless pre-arrangements have been made.

Probably wont be a charge for the lift-gate but all they are required to do is get the shipment onto your property, they do not bring it inside (say your garage) unless you have tip cash in your hand.

 

Ive gotten a few Tacoma mods LTL. They usually call first and set an appointment window.
Bit of a pain but at least i have a window when its arriving. And they will usually put it in my garage.

 

^ This, last time I got an LTL shipment all the driver would do is open the back and lower the gate I had to do the rest.

 

Thats 100% correct. All my orders stated clearly tailgate or sidewalk delivery. but every driver so far helped me load it into garage; and they all got a tip.

 

LTL (Less than Truck Load), if it's not too big for me to haul, I always schedule to pick it up from the terminal myself instead of wait for their delivery schedule.
