20 years ago working at that factory where I met my current wife, I was a machinist apprentice. My training then was with a journeyman named Dave. Dave liked to do the crossword puzzles in the morning and I liked to read the newspaper. He had a subscription to the local paper and I would get USA today then we would trade papers because he mostly wanted for the puzzles. Anyway about 2 weeks or less prior to 9/11, I recall opening up the USA Today and telling Dave my somewhat of a shocked feeling about all the attacks happening throughout the world and how glad I was we didn't have to worry about that here.
On the morning of 9/11 I was cruising through the Tool and Die shop area and a guy hollered at me, hey did you hear the news? My reply was no, what news? He said a plane just crashed into the trade center and I said you mean like a lil Cessna? He say, no like a passenger jet, an it's all over the news. I U-turn back to the shop and told Dave, who promptly broke out the master key and removed the lock where back shift guys kept a little television. So anyway we watched jet #2 live on television. I remember both of us in shock, disbelief. Work ended up sending everyone home for the day shortly after it happened. I remember the wife and I were on the same shift at that time and we picked up our son from the sitter on the way home. Our daughter was born 10 days after.
20 years that seems like yesterday, those memories do anyway.

Never Forget 9/11

I was about 45 miles north of the Trade centers that day making a delivery to a restaurant when I heard on the radio a plane had crashed into a building in NYC . Thinking it was a small plane I continued on my way with a hand truck full of cases into the restaurant where a woman was cleaning from the previous night . She had the TV over the bar on and said OMG look at this . We stood there in disbelief and watched the second plane hit the towers . Within minutes sirens in Middletown were sounding off . …... horrible day .

You should get Disney+ if you haven't already or find someone to share. You would enjoy a lot and they've got all the good Saturday morning classics of every generation. I'd share ours but it is a friend's who added a profile for us and not the other way around.

Great story and so true.
It's one of those rare events that are seared into one's memory.

I was remodeling an old house with a radio playing.
Suddenly came a series of confusing reports, the announcer excited and somewhat incoherent.
When the second tower was hit, I packed up and immediately went home.
The roads were deserted, at first. Before too long, everyone else went home too.
For weeks there were fighter jets flying combat air patrol at high and medium altitude. (I live near Camp David and Site R).
It all came out of a clear blue sky, as the old saying goes.

I also remember something much earlier... a warmish, bright day in November, 1963.
I was in third grade.
I'm talking about JFK and Dallas, of course.
It made a big impression, but only at second hand, as I was very young.
It was the reaction of the stunned and distraught teachers that stayed with me.
