Tuesday Sept. 11, 2001 I was scheduled to have my first colonoscopy early in the morning. (Colon cancer runs in the family and at 48 years old at the time I was long overdue to get one.) My lady friend and I left the house long before dawn without ever turning on the tv or radio so I could be at the clinic at 6:45AM. As we left I picked up the newspaper to have something to read in the waiting room. When we got checked in I started reading the paper and paying no attention to the tv everyone else in the room was watching.

It wasn't long though before my girlfriend grabbed my arm and I looked up to see she was crying. I turned around just in time to see the second plane hit. We watched it live for awhile and saw some truly horrible things before I got called in for the procedure. When I came out of the anesthetic both buildings were just rubble and thousands were dead. When we left the clinic I was still a little spacey and I remember looking up at the sky and seeing all the jet contrails making giant loops in the sky and wondering what was going on.

Of course when we got home we soon found out that all planes had been grounded and needless to say we spent the rest of the day watching the news. I don't know what ever happened to that paper I was gonna read.

I remember 9/11 all too vividly. I was sitting in my truck on an oilfield location. Reading a book, waiting for my load of crude oil to get loaded.
A welder stopped and came over.
“Are you listening to the radio?”
I said “No, what’s up?”
He said “We’re being attacked or something. Two planes went through the WTC towers.”
I radioed in to my dispatcher who was watching on tv and he told me the details.
When I got home I watched the news reruns.
It was a sad day.
