I'm going to take advantage of the nondescript request and post a random photo of a cute dog yawning.

One gets spoiled just by walking through a door to the shop.

having the air compressor only one wall away I don`t notice it running.

    Yes, you sir... are spoiled.

My air compressor is inside my shop. My very smal 20'x15' shop.

I've been asking for a new shop and so has my colleague. And nope.

But I have gotten the new welder, a new 1ton cummins service truck, a new powerstroke engine in the 12 Ford 1ton. (3rd engine no lie) but my air compressor Is still in my face.

    I am jelly

A6C562B7-255C-4CFD-A8C5-77DF3D01CC80.jpg I ended up rejecting all 4 of these pieces!
Vendor isn’t happy but junk is junk!
I’ve made many of them on the manual boring mill. They suck I know clamping in a free state and keeping heat out is key!
The 4 bars are about $60k machine and materials.
Doing them twice isn’t cost effective.
Lying on your inspection reports just shady shit.

    Ok while I’m venting here!
How the hell the powers to be can say we have a seasoned person for you to evaluate 30yrs experience. Yea he drove a desk and doesn’t know shit!
He’s 61 a few yrs older than I so it’s like giving your father a scolding.
We are looking for actual machinists if anyone is willing to move.
I want a 32hr week so the more you do the less I have too!

    We use GD&T tolerances.
Their is .005 tolerance on the pads that are cut in the plate stk with the triangles cut in it. Weight reduction is all they are.
To the +\.003 dim cut in the bar stock on the bottom with the +/.001 dia and depth holes. The 4 pieces make 2 and have now machined pieces to bolt them together (they just wouldn’t listen).
And end up with less than .006 over 12 feet flatness and less than .010 parallel
They are bowed and have twist they have a 1.251 +\- .0005 dia welded with voids showing and dia is 1.2535.
Some of it I could fight tolerance so if this was .005 big and that was .005 small etc but their inspection report shows what they are about

I've been out of production machining for 20 years so I couldn't really say the best way to machine something like that in the most cost effective manner.
I did give it no less than 10 minutes looking at and figuring the different methods to the finished product.
It seems like the welded portion introduces most of the bend and twist would be my guess. After the bend and twist is in there it becomes difficult to clamp ahold of it and hold tolerance on parallelism and straightness.
I would think that hole diameters would be least troublesome and they can't even get that correct is poor. And then try to pass it off as a good parto_O
