Agree, but the type of driving (city/short trips or highway) should be considered also (in my opinion.)

I did my first Oil change with about 3500 on it. I opened up the filter element and there were some very small metal flakes in the filter. I'm debating having the dealer do the 10,000 because I'm curious if there would be any more metal. I wouldn't trust them to save the element for me. They were very small, almost like metal flake paint size.

When they did my first oil change just short of 5k they didn't even change the filter claiming the trucks milage didn't warranty it. At any rate due for my 2nd, and last free oil change around next feburary. Can't complain truck runs great.

It is like 2 years or 24,000 miles, either way you only get 2 oil changes

Did mine after bedding the engine at 1000 miles, myself; inspected the oil and filter for metal and will let the dealership change it at 4500-5000 since it will take me 6 + months to get to that mileage. Gave me Peace of mind.

Is that per Toyota? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe mobile one and" Toyota" oil are pretty much the same thing (both manufactured by exxon mobile.) Also, you can buy mobile one at half the price of what the stealership charges for"Toyota" oil.

That is a complete waste of money unless your running no air filter. But to each there own I guess.

I think that is a bit of an overstatement.

Since every time they run a race car they change the oil.

There is some benefit without a doubt and why would makers of aftermarket re-gearing have you change your oil after 500 miles if it is a waste of money? Because it is your money they are wasting so it no big deal?

Changing Oil and filter is NEVER a complete waste of money.
And it is only once at the time it can do the most good. And not doing it could cause the most harm (potentially).

Blackstone can analyze your oil if you want to find out of its bot worth changing it at 1500 miles.

FWIW, I will change my oil at 1k and again immediately after my free 5k ToyotaCare service (which will not include an oil change). Then it will be dealer at 10k, me at 15k, dealer at 20k, an so on. My truck came with ToyoGuard so I get 4 years (2 additional years) of free service through it and my dealership has free oil changes for life. So technically, I would never have to do my own oil changes (but I can't force myself to go10k between oil changes).

Having said that, I greatly dislike taking my vehicles to the dealership for anything other than warranty repairs. Therefore, this plan may change as soon as my first dealership oil change.

I think when you figure it out wally world is about the same for that amount. At any rate i change my oil once a year, its not all that costly. Found a good quality filter like mobil 1 extended performance, or K&N plays a part to keeping that oil cleaner.

Unless the master technician is working on it! I’m in the same boat as you. I can remember when I was working at the dealership watching the new guy forgetting to put an oil filter on before adding oil. It’s best just to do that stuff on your own, plus Toyota engineers these things to be worked on if you can figure out how the engineers’ minds worked. Right down to the holes in the radiator support for putting your screw drivers in.

If you drive your vehicle like a taxi, tow more than not or take short trips in extremely cold conditions then you fit into the “special conditions” service interval which is a more frequent schedule for oil & filter change (5000 mi) + other stuff. I tow a camper in the summer and short trips in the winter so I put mine on the “special conditions” schedule.

I changed it at 3980 miles. Sent a sample to Blackstone. I should have changed it earlier.

Been doing the 10k intervals (10k, 20k etc) since.

Every new vehicle, I ALWAYS do a "break-in" oil change after the first 500 miles and then every 8-10K thereafter. There was a good bit of junk in the filter on my '17 after the first 500. It's cheap insurance.

I do just under 10k a year, so I get a yearly oil change and tire rotation. Did the same year one.
