Did your door ever pop open when driving?

Well sure, I had plenty of instances since I don’t like slamming doors, of the doors not fully latching, especially when it’s the last one being shut. But it is very obvious from the getgo and sets off the door alarm and causes obvious noise due to not being latched. My situation was not like that.

I must have closed the door 1000 times 900 of which it was fully shut, 99 of which id open and close again. The 1 incident was quite dangerous and generated this thread.
I’m not incapable of operating a car door.
Hope this helps others and just keep em more vigilant.

Incorrect at least as far as my Utility package goes, the molded back cover is over the vents (there is a narrow gap at the bottom to let air flow through the vents). And the testing I did (see above) proves doors and windows closed does make a difference. I also don’t think trucks with the vents exposed are going to let enough air pass through quickly enough to overcome the back pressure from a door swinging closed. They can help but no way that small vent area totally can instantly overcome the area and volume of a door closing. But you can do your own testing. ;)

Not an expert but from what I’ve read the rear vents are for equalizing pressure in the cab, whether a pressure increase is due to AC or fan drawing in outside air, door closing, etc. It’s just not going to be able to do it fast enough to totally get rid of the spike in pressure as a door closes with all other doors and windows closed.

It does sound like you had an unusual problem there. If you can’t get the problem to repeat yourself then I doubt the dealer will be able to and likely to just blow it off unfortunately.

I know my driver's door is hard to close. Always requires a hard slam. Probably isn't adjusted correctly. I thought it would get better with use, but it hasn't so far. I figured I'd take it in whenever I get my 5000 mile service.

Try this. Lower the passenger side window before you close your door, you’ll notice how much easier it is to close. Not that you should do this every time, just so you see why it’s harder to close with all the other windows and doors closed.

My door are still pretty tight where i have to give them a good slam to make sure their closed. Sometimes they cause my ears to pop. If anything when i rest my arm on the center arm console the lid keeps making a clicking sound every time more pressure is applied to it like its opening, and latching shut again. Its probably my biggest beef with this truck.

Despite the cab vents, the last door to close will always be a little harder than the rest.
Unless, of course there's a window rolled down.
My wife is perpetually the last one to shut a door, and I swear it takes her two goes at it 90% of the time.

I had a 92 Eagle Summit and the door popped open once. I guess I hit a bump just right, and the driver door opened right up. Worst part was it had automatic seatbelts, so that started coming off of me when it happened.

I tried it. You're right. MUCH better! I have never had that happen with any other vehicle I've owned. Live and learn! Thanks for that trick!

Yes. My access cabs Passenger door popped but latch caught it. I was making a left turn. This was when the truck was newer and the doors still had to be closed fairly briskly as they hadn’t “worn in” yet. Must have not quite closed correctly the last time I opened it but it hasn’t happened since. Truck went apeshit with the beeping which was far more startling than the door lol.

Reminds me of a girlfriend's Hyundai back in the day with the auto belts, only the car would close the belts on you when you opened the doors and unbelt you when you closed them.
South Korean auto manufacturing has come a long way since the 90's.

The vents are there primarily for pressure equalization. If the car was sealed and parked in the hot sun the expanding gases would have no where to go.

The vents are not designed to displace enough air to equal the volume of air the door introduces. There is no way to calculate for that. It would depend on the weather that day, wind entering the car, how fast the door was closed, objects in the car, etc.

The door in this situation must have been just shy of full close. I do not see anyway a fully engaged latch would fail. In 20 plus years of inspecting wrecked cars I had never seen a door popped open in an accident. The door would have to have been ripped off and latch destroyed before it failed.

Scary situation glad everyone is ok.

Well thankfully the door was held by the secondary latch, after which the air resistance is hard to overcome also.

that said … a tight right turn no seatbelt and sub 20mph would be quite scary if this was to happen.
