i worked at a gas station for minimum wage from 16-18 and had my own lawn cutting service from 16-21. drove an 81 VW rabbit diesel for 2 years that i paid $100 for then saved enough to buy my first Taco at 19 it was a 99 Ext Cab 4x4 that i lifted 6" with 33s. it cost me about 14k at the time, paid cash. i did the lawn service through college and paid for each semester in full as i went along. no student loans at all, no debt. got done with college, started working as an ER Nurse, Toyota bought back my 99 (due to frame rust) for 15k, i bought a brand new 08 TRD sport in cash including my buyback check.

working pays off but having fun while you can is probably the way to go.

A farm is a good place to start working. Stacking hay will make a man of you in a hurry,in more ways than just muscling up. I found it to be a good place to work through my problems. Jogging was the same way.

Keep in mind that a farm is a place where you will sweat for your pay.

I also played sports in high school; volleyball, basketball and track. But...I also held a part time job. I was a lifeguard and also worked at the baskin robbins. Not at the same time though.

Started hauling drywall for my step-dads supply company when I turned 16. It was aweful on hot days in the summer but the pay was good and it kept me in good shape. Worked there in the summers through my first two years of college. After that I did a few summer internships, now I'm gradumutated and back with my step dads company in estimating & sales of architectural doors & hardware (a fancy way to say doors, hollow metal frames, locks, closers, exit devices, etc.).

Been showin' myself the money 9 yrs strong!

To the OP. I started baling hay at age 7, still doing it, all-though hopefully not forever. I'll finish my master's degree next year. I played baseball for 13 years, rode horses competitively, and graduated 3rd in my class. At my house you didn't eat if you didn't work. I'm 22 and have owned a C5 Corvette, 2 2005 model crotch rockets, an F350 powerstroke, a 2002 Malibu Wakesetter VLX, numerous barrel horses, and my 2010 DC TRD OR. I don't tell you this to brag, but to give you an example of what is capable if you work hard, work long, and treat people fairly. In my opinion, having a job and paying for your own stuff is an invaluable part of growing up and becoming a man. What ever you do, do it the best you can and you'll go far.

Started doing construction at 17 for a girlfriends Aunts company. Did that until they went under because of the crap economy. Was making $12 an hour in cash everyday.

I worked at Taco Bell for a year, it was a shit job and I hated it. I was given crap shifts like 8am to 5PM so I could do truck in the morning. The thing was, nobody, including the managers, would ever show up until 830 to sometimes 845 so I'd betting there for half an hour waiting for somone to come open the store. The customers treat you like shit, and those damn headsets we take orders on are impossible to hear.

When I put in to cut back to part time so I could go to college (I put in my schedule change 6 weeks in advance), my manager came to me while I was cashing out an order on drive thru during lunch rush and cussed me out saying she didn't care if I was going to school and that I couldn't change my hours because other people had to go to school. After they finally cut my hours back they started scheduling me to work 11-3 on days where I had class at 2pm on the other side of town. That's when I quit

Moral of the story is avoid fast food because its a shit job with shit pay and your treated like shit.

I'm now taking 18 credits in College and not working anywhere.

I understand the time crunch thing in the school year I spend around 25 hours a week at practice and in the summer it's more around 30. My truck isn't "mine" per say but I refuse for my parents to pay for any modifications, they only pay for the routine stuff. The trick is to find odd jobs around you. Ask friends parents if they need help with anything. I had one friend live with me all summer (thats another really long story) and that built up a solid relationship with his family. Next thing I knew I was getting 22 bucks an hour to do some electrical work. I life guarded one summer and will never do that again but I still made some money, even if it wasn't much. I also work at a physical therapy center for another friends dad in the summer. It isn't much but if you're good at saving for your truck you'll do what you want to do. It isn't easy though. I waited a full eight months for my lift and now regret doing that first because I don't have cash for tires, but eventually everything will fall together. Maybe start thinking of unique ways to do your mods. Lately I've been thinking about building my own sliders which works well because I can do it in my engineering classes and my parents will help pay for the cost of stock because it is part of my education. You have to get creative with this type of stuff if you really want results. Best of luck

I got my first job when I was 14, Now I'm 34 and have had always been employed (Thank you Lord!!!) I worked at multiple greenhouses and nursery's (the kind with trees, not kids) during high school. It taught me a lot about how to garden, how to work like a man, and how I never wanted to work at a greenhouse or nursery when I grew up.... unless I owned the place. If you are scholarship bound for the sports just drive a stock Tacoma, no shame it that. Don't let your Job get in the way of your grades, that is the most important thing.

had a job since i was 15. just be sure to get a job at somewhere u would enjoy. it makes life alot easier/enjoyable. its feels better paying your own way too, ive learned alot of life lessons becoming financially independent too. like how savings are veryy important. if something can go wrong it will.

I was a first team All-State soccer player, honor student, and worked 2 jobs. One was at a pizza place, and the other was my own lawnmowing business (appx. 40 yards at peak). Still had plenty of time to party with friends and be a high school kid.

Get off your ass and work. You'll appreciate what you have 100x more when you work for it.

EDIT: I say this with all the kindness in the world. Really, I do.

I had a job all throughout highschool. I don't think I've been without one since I was 14-15 years old. Before I had my license I would ride my XR50 across town avoiding cops so I could go to work; they almost caught me a few times haha. Its very easy to evade on a little 50 though :D

McDonald's from 15 till I was 18... it was fun, it was back when most fast food joints were filled with teenage employees so it was like social time. Plus the staff was like 70% chicks... quit because I was going to college
