What's your secret? I either burn my ribs or they're tough. Gotta go to a restaurant to find fall-off-the-bone ribs.

Low temps, foil, and time. 250 degrees wrapped in foil for 3 to 5 hours.

A little something every chance we get.
Find a simple 3-2-1 recipe, and smoke @ 225. Remove membrane, and put a rub you like on. Smoke 3 hours. Remove, wrap securely in foil with some liquid (I used a cup of apple juice, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 3-4 tbsp butter mixed) smoke for 2 hours. Remove foil, add how much BBQ sauce you like, smoke 1 more hour. Should fall right off. I like them on the bone, wife and son like it falling off. Today was a good compromise. You get the compromise by cheating a little time off in step one and two; like 15 -20 minutes.

I used to do "dry" ribs on my Weber, indirect, coals both sides, 1 hour, 15 minutes. Good, but not as good as smoke, and definitely not as tender.

I have tried par boiling to prevent flame up. Whatta ya think? Wish I had a smoker. All I have is a 3 log butane Weber. Last week, I had it holding just below 300F, and all of a sudden it flames up and the gauge pegs out and ruined the ribs. I'll lower the temp and cover with foil. Thanks!

Good morning everyone!! Hope everyone is enjoying their "We no longer have weekends" weekend. A bit dicey here at Mighty Mortgage Manor.

I woke up yesterday morning at 2AM with pain in my abdomen - I thought. By 4 I was pacing the house waiting for the pain to subside and thinking it was a reboot of diverticulitis. Figured I'd tough it out until I could see my doctor on Monday. Started to feel better and went off to the 9/11 ceremony where I was giving the keynote address. Mild pain but made it through. Came home and slept for 45 minutes and then woke up in pain again. By late afternoon I was having waves of pain, chills and nausea. Off to the ER. Finally seen at 1AM this morning - turns out I'm passing a kidney stone. I wouldn't recommend it as a Bucket List item.

Much better this AM - running out to fill prescriptions for pain and an antibiotic but really don't need the pain meds at this point - Tylenol is keeping the edge off.

Be safe and enjoy your day!!!

That reminds me now - wife has a great oven recipe, and they will fall right off the bone (like she likes). Not smoked, but delish. I'll see if I can get it.

EDIT: and got it I did! https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/chili-baked-ribs-269

Recipe has the sauce, the rub, the marinade - the whole deal.

Meralgia Peresthia - oh what fun to learn new medical terms. Basically, it's a pinched nerve to the skin. Leg feels numb, but the slightest touch will send you through the roof. The irony I had taken it easy as my leg hurt so much, but it's resolved by brisk walking and cycling. Hmmm.

My wife is still hanging in there. Another day in the ER, just time to top her up with a pint of blood and send her on her way. I'm not sure who is more amazed, me or her Doctors that she is still going on. Pint of blood works a few times, but after the third, it's no longer a bump up but more a sign of other medical things going on. TPN (IV Feeding) is keeping her going, but this is normally something most expect in your 80s, not early 60s. Her goal was to be home with the doggies, so as long as she is happy. She can handle a smoothy, but that and banana are pretty much it.

I need to sneak out for my BBQ fix.

Yeow! I guess some stones worse than others. My friend that did most of my springs Wednesday had passed a stone the night before - but lots of water and he felt "fine", so work we did.

Now there's a subject I know something about. They don't call me Stony for nothing. I believe I am more knowledgeable about the range of symptoms from stones than most Doctors. Yours was a classic well known variety, easy to diagnose. Other times you can feel like it's your time to die for months with little relief and no diagnosis. I've never passed a stone without a Doctor's intervention, the most successful method by far being non invasive sonic blasting, after which you can fill a catbox with sand for the better part of a week. The least successful and most dangerous, oddly being favored by Doctors is the invasive Send in the Troops method, with a follow up of a Barbed Wire Catheter. I know what I'm talking about, I've been on death's doorstep from septic poisoning from those heavy handed tactics. I get Xrays twice a year now, and take Sodium Bicarbonate daily as a preventative measure. You've had stones once, odds are you'll have them again, so lots of luck finding a good Urologist.

Ain't no joke, esp. when I didn't know what it was.
Pissed it out the next day and caught it in a coffee filter.

Doc said dehydration is a main culprit as I had it in April at work where I wasn't tanking up as much.
He also said you should be pissing almost clear if you have enough fluids in you.

Good morning everyone!! I basically did nothing yesterday other than running out and picking up the antibiotics. By the time I got home from the ER the pain had subsided enough that Motrin ]took off the pain edge enough for me to sleep and function so I didn't get the Oxy. By noon the pain was gone completely.

I did learn through this experience that CVS does not take Tricare For Life/Tricare insurance. Tricare For Life becomes your supplemental to Medicare Part A/B an your prescription coverage. Of course, the only 24 hour pharmacy in or area is a CVS so I went there after I got out of the ER at 1:30 AM to get the painkiller an antibiotic only to be told I'd have to pay full price for the prescriptions. At that point, I'd gutted out the pain for almost 24 hours so I just went home. So, if you have Tricare or TFL coverage be warned that CVS is out of network.

Feeling back to normal this morning so I am heading out to play in a Patriot's Day fundraiser golf tournament.

    Be safe out there!!

Looks great. I am surprised that your wife likes the ribs falling off the bone over what I see in this picture.

How is the Masterbuilt grill working out for you? I ahve never heard anything bad about them at all.

I have started to cook ribs at 180 degrees for 3 hours or until the bark sets Spritz with I cannot believe it is not butter every 30 min,. Then wrap in aluminum foil with some brown sugar after spritzing with I cannot believe it is not butter. Place in over at 250 degrees for 1.5 hours. Remove from oven, roll up tin foil to make like a tray for the ribs. Then add honey and your favorite BBQ sauce. Back on the smoker at 180 degrees for another hour. You really should trim the ribs and save the trimmings for other meals in the future. The basic idea is to have the rack square and at an even thickness. Most of the time that means cutting off 3 to 4 of the ribs on the thin side of the rack. This should yield 8 to 9 ribs. More than enough for two persons.

Praying for you to pass the stone quickly. I had a coworker that this problem multiple times and he was in his 30's.

Praying both you and the wife get better this week.

We went to a concert in Raleigh, NC this week. Saw Luke Combs, it was an entertaining show. Not too many of us seniors in attendance. He sings a lot about beer, LOL. The fans are passionate and know the words to all his hit songs. I was surprised at how civil the crowd was both before, during and after the show.

Today is grocery shopping and some laundry. Smoked chicken thighs for dinner tonight.

Both my wife and son have all crowns, so, they really don't like to gnaw on it! They have to strip my corn on the cob, but I still make it. So, it's the search for compromise! I am flat loving the Masterbuilt. Only "faults" are that they overstate how long you can burn without refill (but you can do it on the fly after 6 or so hours....), and the Phone App gets bumped off if you use your phone for much else. I may just teach the old phone that doesn't cell anymore to do it. So,:thumbsup:.

:rain::pccoffee: And Good Morning Porch! Looks like a wet day to Putz, because nothing much other than an errand on the list. Have to swing by my paint guy and get a quote for the "last fender" clear coat fix. The only one we haven't touched. Yesterday, we were on the edge of the cone, today we're off. Still looks to be a wet one though.

    Morning all:
Just got back from getting the yearly inspection done on the "66", I think I put more miles on it driving to and back from the garage than I did all summer!

I know nothing about kidney stones, and sure sounds like something I don't want to learn about first hand, I feel for those who have experienced them.

    I have a plan! :)
The large suckers I cut off the tree are now sprouting more and will be a problem down the road, going to try to cut around the bark of that part of the tree and see if that stops the growth. NBD if that part of the tree falls, without the large suckers I cut off prior it won't hit the house.
