    you are correct the fab becomes the issue and the machinist needs to say yes or no! Unless you have massive amounts of material to remove the machinist can only cut x amount.
    But the amount of material is sufficient and it becomes the machinist job to indicate and shim as needed to machine part in a “free state”.

    In house we bend them to a .06 spec before the mill sees them. I believe the material will return and has a memory.

    lol had to help the big lathe guy find something to check his 3” 8 npt. After looking in inventory etc.
    I looked in inspection and we had a gauge another crisis averted!!
    Shit they should pay me more.

    I really need to take some pictures but after years of the universal law every flat surface is a good location to sit things so one does not need to bend to the floor.

    My welding table might have a few square inches of table showing.

    Most all my home projects were built of extra material and drops from jobs

    I live 11 miles from the Giddings & Lewis plant. It's owned by a foreign company now called Fives. Giddings & Lewis used to be major employer here.
