Ahhhh...

 

I feel your pain with the belts. All of our waste from each machine lands on belts to get dragged to our central vibrating conveyor. Pretty much all of them are starting to age out and are starting to shed/shred/fall apart slowly.

 

Most of our belt issues seemed to be with unload doors and the 5-stage extendables (goes out into a 53' trailer) this week. Alot of them could use completely new belts, but we tend to just put 6'-12' splices in them to keep em going. If everything goes right we can do one in about 45 minutes. I've done one just by myself in an hours time. The trick is how you lace them together, gotta smash that lace good and get a nice angle cut on the ends. You think most know how to do that? Yea, no. They did split an incline belt completely in half length wise this week, that was impressive...

 

Should've seen the look on my coworkers face when I pulled out the scarping tool.

split lengthwise? That's impressive alright. We had one a couple months back that something punched a hole in the middle of the belt, which then bisected itself around the drive wheel and stopped that thing dead.

 

Hah same thing with me when I pulled out the skiver to trim the rough top belt. Makes matters even more funny is the guy has been doing industrial work as long as I've been alive. I think only me and one other guy have this tool.

Something got caught in the transition plate and it all went to Hell from there. Not the first time they've done it either. I have pictures of it, but alas can't share.

Can confirm, I had a brad nail U-turn go straight through my thumb nail a few years ago. Grew out just fine.
