Anyone know why when I try to play any video on HDMI (tried youtube and netflix so far), it immediately switches source to android auto and stops playback on my phone? I can view everything fine until I hit play.

Maybe switching source audio on the phone app to HDMI or USB if that is plugged in too? If that is even a setting. Can only think that Bluetooth audio is taking over and switching sources on the head unit.

Didn’t see any pics on here but got the Firestick working. Used the wired in usb power and a splitter for phone charger. Powers both just fine.

Thanks, you're right that it was the audio taking over - I had to turn off my wifi to make sure android auto didn't take over. I don't see a setting to prevent that without having to turn off my wifi though. I have the auto-launch AA off already.

I had this problem too. What I did was I moved the pioneer supplied GPS antenna to the head liner just above the mic and centered it in the square cutout with 3M Velcro and routed the cable with the green plug end down along the A-pillar and back up to the HU, reset the 3D calibration, and made sure that “precise location” was on in iOS. Also updated the HU to v1.31 and another fix (may not be necessary) was that I converted the Axxess TOYUSB adapter from USB-A to USB-C male and I closed it nicely with heat shrink. The parts can be found here; https://cruzctrl.gg/collections/diy-cable-parts/products/usb-c-2-0-connector

I doubt you have to go this route on the last step but I’m OCD. I even replaced the factory mic because Cartoys ran it up the A-pillar and it was exposed on a clip and it wasn’t to my liking. All in all this was my first time messing with a head unit install and I pretty much had to redo everything that Cartoys did because they cut so many corners it drove me crazy…I mean they ran the Pioneer supplied USB type-C cable through the glove box! They also told me that I couldn’t retain the factory USB location and that the 6600 couldn’t be flush mounted. They sure were wrong!

    None.

How does this access the internet? Do you use hot spot on your phone?

    You have two options:
    1. Use the hotspot on the phone - you can not use both the hotspot on your phone and Wireless Carplay. You can still use wired Carplay.
    2. Use an external hotspot - you can use Wireless Carplay.

I use an external hotspot and Wireless Carplay.

I found for me (iPhone 11 Max) that it didn't like sharing the hot spot off my phone through the head unit to the Fire Stick. I just disconnected the hot spot from the head unit and only connected the Fire Stick. That seemed to work.

I do find from time to time the video is glitchy and it cuts in and out. Haven't done too much troubleshooting as it just comes and goes and I don't use the Fire Stick... really ever lol. Just wanted to do it because I could.

Are most of the recent Pioneer harnesses the same? I have a AVIC-W8400NEX and I'm thinking about moving that to my wife's Sienna and getting a 6600 for my Tacoma. It would be great to just reuse the harness that's in there now for my truck and only have to reprogram the Maestro. I figure if the 8500 harness works, the 8400 will too.

Hey, did anyone take a picture of the wiring they did? I am a little confused about where LF RCA INPUT and RF RCA INPUT are supposed to go. I have a 2019 TRD Pro with JBL.

Yes, you will either have to mill your standard bezel out or buy a premium bezel

Hello all - sorry if this has been answered, if so if someone could steer me to the post#. I searched but didn’t find it. I thought I was going to be happy with my factory SR stereo since it had Carplay. I installed the OEM+ aftermarket speakers (over doing custom installs) and now I just ordered a 6600NEX. I am trying to figure out what exactly the advantage is of buying the Maestro RR2 over the RR if there is any. I read a couple posts about the anytime camera, which I have but havent installed yet. I also read where it adds a “couple other programmable” features. Can someone let me know what exactly the RR2 offers over the RR? Im find spending the money on the RR2 if it is worth it. Thanks all - got the radio off of EBay since Crutchfield is sold out, but want to get all the install equipment ordered through Crutchfield so I can install it when it gets here.

The RR2is supposed to allow flashing via Bluetooth? I splurged for it for that. I am not aware of it being an option yet, though, but I’m not paying close attention.

it is a mild pain to remove the unit to flash it. But then again not something which needs to be done often.

I have at least one more flash to make. I set hold on up volume to mute like hold on down volume and I don’t like that. Otherwise I think I have mine dialed in after 4 or 5 flashes.

Thanks @daveeasa Funny thing is as I was scouring this thread and the other 6600 thread thats 9 pages, I scrolled looking for your yellow lab since you had so much info you posted. Haha! Hope its ok, if I run into any hitches I may PM you. I was happy with the head unit until I installed an 8600 into a friends Kia. The resolution on the screen is literally RIDICULOUS! Hence why I bought the 6600.

For your installation the standard RR will work fine. The big difference between the two is the RR2 adds the ability of 3x programable outputs, but there are currently no additional dashboard interfaces to use these.

On a technical note, the RR had some power output issues for some people - the symptom was an unexpected reboot of the RR device. iData had a work around for this issue for those people effected by the reboot. I personally upgraded to the RR2 just for the power issues (seems to be more stable). I have had no rebooting issues, since upgrading to the RR2.

    Edit:
I also addressed @daveeasa programming comment by leaving an extended length micro USB cable that ran from the RR2 to my glove box. This way, I can pull it out and reprogram the unit without having to disassemble the dash.
