Not exactly sure of the best place to ask this question so I will start here. Searched online and best answer I can find is "sunlight, fresh air and time".

Bought a bed mat about 4 weeks ago and have had it in the bed ever since. The off gassing smell is still present. I am getting an ARE topper installed in 4 weeks with purpose of sleeping in the back while camping. A bit worried about the smell!

Is there a method to speed the off gassing process of the bed mat up outside of sunlight, fresh air and time?

a load of chicken manure should do the trick!

    Welcome aboard!

Sun time should help maybe the rubber forms some kind of oxidation layer

Mines exposed to sun and elements and after about 3 months I didnt smell it anymore. Leave it out in the sun and rain for a bit. Ideally flip it over once in awhile. I do still catch a slight whiff if it’s super hot and directly in the sun but it’s nothing offensive.

Got mine in June. Its just starting to calm down now. Ive been parking outside more so its exposed to air rain and sun. So nice my truck doesn’t smell like Harbor Freight on Black Friday anymore.

Had the same problem with some stall mats I had. Maybe try taking a stiff broom to it with soap and water and leaving it outside in the weather. I left my mats outside and hit them with the broom/soapy water trick every couple of days. Still took about a month...and I still get whiffs periodically. I think its just one of those things.

I have the tonneau cover over my bed with the bed mat underneath, even after a 1 1/2 years the strong smell of rubber is brutal every time when you pop that tailgate. I'm just glad i don't live in there. Imo, i doubt that smell will ever go away.

Reminds me of those toxic mimeograph copies they use to make back in the 70's at schools. There was nothing greater than taking a deep wiff from a stack of quizzes fresh off the mimeograph machine! :)

Yeah mine is about a year old and still has a stench to it although I have a bed cover on I imagine if it were in the sun all the time it would speed up the process

Curious. What did you do about the offgassing inside the cab? Did you wear a gas mask?

The new car smell is nothing compared to the bed mat smell. I like the new car smell anyway. It is mainly gone though (bought in early May).

Also curious is someone living the bed of the truck? Or why is the smell such an issue.
