I will be purchasing my first Tacoma within a few months after the 2022s come out. I am fortunate that one of the Toyota dealerships nearby will do lifts (up to 3 inches) and bigger wheels/tires and not void the warranty (a couple of the other Toyota dealerships close to me would not). I was going to have it lifted 2 to 3 inches and get 33s, but was considering up to 35s. I would appreciate any thoughts on the size tire you think would look the best? Also, lift height suggestions would be appreciated? This is more for looks and some mudding, but nothing major, so I think the appearance would be the biggest driver. Thanks for any input!

If appearance is the driving factor, none of us are going to be able to help you make that choice, because what you like is what you like. Personally, I run 33 skinnies and love them.

35s are a huge commitment. Regearing, trimming, Cab mount chop/relocated. If you aren't doing serious off roading, then its not worth it imo. Same with the lift. I'd really stick with 2". You open a couple cans of worms for one more inch(driveline/axle angles)

Lifts don’t void warranties and other dealers won’t always honor aftermarket parts installed by other dealers.

That said, it takes some work to fit 33s you can forget 35s unless you want to do some cutting. Doubt your dealer will cut up a truck

This is a very good point. I completed glossed over that the dealer is doing this for you. I don't see a dealer doing the cab mount chop you'd need to run 35s.

Lift kits only void warranties on suspension parts that are changed/altered for the lift I believe. They aren’t going to replace your cv joints or boots if your lift messes them up. You should be able to do 33s with minimal trimming of plastic if you don’t offroad. If you do, you’ll need a CMC. 35s are dope but as mentioned above you’ll need a regear, cmc, and a bunch of trimming. Possibly losing or replacing fender liners.

Ask the dealer if they are doing a “drop bracket lift”. They are not easily reversed.

I have been through this same decision process. Here's the scoop.

Stock tires. They suck. Need something else.

Ok, went to 265/75/R16 E rated duratracs. They fit on my truck (2018 trd OR) with no rubbing, even with mud flaps on. NOISY. Hummed like a banshee. Sold them.

Back to stock tires. Immediately could feel more power and better handling.

Had a 3" Elka lift installed, went to 33's. Falken wildpeak AT3W E rated tires. Quite a big difference in power. The truck feels heavier. Wildpeaks are quiet. I like that.

Thought of going to 35's. Talked to some locals with tacomas. You rub everywhere with 35's. Be prepared to cut fender wells, cab mount chop, front bumper trim, and maybe still rub on the battery box they said.

So I've settled on 33's for now. As it stands I'm surprised how much I had to cut to prevent rubbing, even with 33's. I have stock gears and I feel the truck is a bit sluggish.

I like this idea. Why wait to ruin the truck when you can buy it brand new and already ruined! :turtleride:

My truck came with duratracs and they were not noisy at all.

The stock gearing on this truck is not optimal for me enough to consider upsizing even just an inch the tire.

Also too cheap to regear, which you'll need at these sizes.

For autos, yes. The manual does fine with 33s and no regear.

Indeed have an auto here. I wish I had the manual gear in it. Heck I wish I had the whole fucking thing manual, but I know Toyota tall reverse gear and don't wanna backup my popup trailer with it.

Oh you sweet summer child. Oblivious to the world of pain trying to fit bigger tires will cause.

Just remember, truck lift should be no more than your dick length, in inches.

why not 32’s (255/75/17)? You only gain 1/2” more clearance with 33’s than 32’s and you don’t have to worry about all the other BS. Most people do not really need tires that big for 99% of the stuff they do. Function over form

They hum at highway speeds and get worse with mileage, not as bad as a real mud terrain but more noticeable than the average AT tire. Good tire non the less.

I would pass on any dealer installed mods or accessories. They choose the cheapest parts and charge way more than what they are worth. The reason people do this is so they can build the cost into there monthly payments. If mods are important to you look for clean stock used unit and then take it to a quality off road shop or one already modified that was done by a quality off road shop. They will most likely charge you a few thousand dollars for what might cost them a few hundred bucks. Even though the dealer installs item does not mean they will warranty the parts or labor. Just another reason dealers are referred to as (steal-er ships)
