If you have a gun to my head, you can have anything you like untill you take the gun down and try to move away. I can chamber a round when that happens.

And at that time, the threat is no longer, and you can be prosecuted for shooting.

Yeah, I would practice drawing and shooting as much as I can so you can use the element of suprise to take out the threat and be able to say that it was self-defense.

Ok...You didnt mention that in the post I quoted. Regardless, Shooting someone who has a gun, but is not a threat to you, or anyone, is prohibited in most states......I think its legal in Texas still.....

I thought if that person is a direct threat and has a gun pointed at you, you or someone else around can use deadly force (gun included).

Thats correct. But if someone robs you at gunpoint, then drops the weapon, and walsk away, Thats not when you can shoot them. Read your local laws.

Yeah, I understand that, so what my original post was saying that if you can draw fast enough (provided that a round is chambered) you can shoot him while he has a gun pointed at you using the surprise to buy you a little time

Average draw and present time, with reaction time included, is 3 seconds. This does not take into account racking the slide. It also assumes you have situational awarness. 3 seconds is a long time in a gunfight. Do you really think you'll have time to rack the slide?
Maybe you should rethink your sidearm selection if you think an UNloaded firearm is necessary to be safe. Maybe you should rethink your training regimen if it's not the firearm.

Well, legally. But I'm sure that, never in the history of police investigations or crime scenes, has a weapon mysteriously been moved.

Not condoning, just saying that legal and what happens aren't always concordant ... but I agree with your point.

BTW, you'll notice I haven't really chimed in on this thread. I don't conceal carry, so my opinions on the topic I keep to myself.

maybe depends on the state and there laws on apprehending a armed and fleeing person who just committed a felony in your presence

Why would someone show a gun? You shouldn't show it unless you are gonna shoot someone. What is the point of showing it. You think that will scare them. They might have a gun and shoot your ass for "showing" your gun. If someone showed me a gun I'd have mine in their face and them on the ground in 2 seconds, or they'd have a hole in their chest. Just my opinon.

The only part of my CCW I will "SHOW" will be the muzzle and if I "SHOW" it to you, you've got a problem.

I CC every day and as far as I'm concerned no one needs to know. By others knowing you CC you become target #1. The way I see it if I never have to pull my trigger then I have successfully protected myself and my loved ones.

I'm 100% with you, you only show it if you're gonna use it.

This is the best thread ever!!! I was just talking to one of my buddies about what if you show your gun to someone and then they back off, what do you do next? Do you just turn around and walk away orndo you call the cops?

First of all if you show your gun and they back off. DON'T EVER turn your back to that person. If it is that bad call the cops.

First thing that came to my mind. Don't stick around and don't turn your back, and make sure you're not being followed

If you ever find yourself in a situation where it becomes necessary to draw or "SHOW" your weapon it would be in your best interest to call the police immediately.

    Think of it this way;

You draw your CCW on a person who approaches you aggressively at an ATM because you feel an imminent threat has presented itself. The person turns tail and runs. 2 hours later the police show up at your door and arrest you for drawing your gun on an "Innocent" citizen trying to use the ATM. You were totally in the right to draw your weapon but you dont get a chance to tell your side of the story. Once you are trying to defend yourself the entire story sounds different.

If you call the police from the ATM and wait there to write a report when the other guy tries to accuse you of scaring the crap out of him he now has to defend his position and you are the one with the legal right to defend yourself and he is on the defensive side of the story.

I heard someone say one time "I carry a gun because it's too tiring to carry a cop everywhere I go"

That about sums up my feeling on this subject.
