Not sure if I picked up something "special" or not yet. Been doing some
looking. Serial # lookup shows it was manufactured in 1942.
30.06 Remington 03-A3 or 1903A3. Beautiful rifle, is in pretty
good shape as far as stock and bluing. Got it for $599.
Found this interesting read on the 1903's
    https://www.americanrifleman.org/content/the-remington-m1903-rifles/

EDIT: Anyone else familiar with these. From the searching I have been
doing, appears the stock on this is not the correct one? I am no where near
familiar with these so not sure. I do still think it was worth the money, should
be fun to shoot. If ammo can be found.
Stumbled across a sporter version which does look like mine. Now that I have
found that it is a sporter, more findings are showing these sell at a relatively
low price so saying 599 is still worth it may have been an oopsie.

    Couple crappy pictures......

A homemade thing like that will be all in the shooting. The action SHOULD be smooth and barrel and sights accurate. Pretty amateur cuts for the peep sight, maybe you can clean that up. What does the chamber and rifling look like?

    Sporterized 1903s make me cry.

There doesn't look like ther is much 1903 Springfield remaining in that gun.

You guys. I was being nice and you ruin a couple good posts. :D

I also feel like suggesting maybe having the chamber spacing checked by a real professional 'smith.

Yeah here's what a 03-A3 should look like. I snagged this 1943 Remington earlier this year for a song. Still need to shoot it though Screenshot_20210912-145028_Instagram.jpg

Lol, thanks guys for the replies. After a little more research last night I did
find out that the rifle was changed quite a bit from original so
definitely not worth what I paid. Seems most of those only bring
$300 - 500. I did take it back and got the money back.

Friend of mine who works at the LGS is big into the old military
rifles and knew a lot about it. Didnt think about talking to him till
today and he had seen it and said yeah, big pass.
