Also, if I do have to replace the motor, how do I get the blades off? I would definitely want to retain the metal blades!

 

I'd limit it to where the axle is. Remember that WD-40 is not a true lubricant so it won't last.

 

If the motor were good and just dried up, wouldn't it be buzzing or humming?

 

It wouldn't hurt but honestly it doesn't appear to be in that bad of shape. I've got vintage fans with sketchier cords that still work well. As long as it isn't cracked or brittle it should be ok

 

Yeah possibly, and you'd likely be able to nudge the blades along a little unless they were completely stuck.

 

I feel like @RustyGreen would have some insight on finds such as these.

 

And seriously, these blades seem sturdier than the ones in both of my central A/C units!



My house was built in 2016 and has builder grade Goodshit, I mean Goodman, central air-conditioners...

 

Unscrew that little Alan bolt. It's simply to tighten the blades against the axle. The blades should be able to come right off after that.

 

The blades are not stuck and spin freely in both directions; I can see something spinning inside the motor housing...

Unless you're hearing something rattle it is completely normal. That's what provides your propulsion.

 

I misread that...

 

So basically your blades sit on an axle. That axle has a cylinder on it. That cylinder interacts with electric coils inside the motor which will cause the cylinder to spin. That cylinder is what you're seeing
