You made me curious. My "oldest" drives have 67000+ hours on them. Even my newer drives are 7k+. But not to worried on hours since most of those is just power on time and sitting idle. Read/Writes are pretty low all things considered.

Mine didn't spend too much idling. Used it to transfer files and boot live OS images. I think it has something like 660+ power cycles.

Here's my build right now, super simplistic and dusty...

    https://imgur.com/a/KW9G1Jr

MSI Z490 ACE (Godlike crapped out and was out of stock when I went to order a replacement)
    Intel i7 10700k
    Nvidia 3090 FE
    64GB RAM
    2x 12tb hdd
    2x 2tb NVM.e drives

One of my NVMe drives just stopped being detected so here's to hoping it's the slot and not the drive

Quad stack PCI-E M2 card. What Raid are you running and what are you doing that needs those sort of speeds?

Don't have any raid arrays configured, all single drives, at the moment.

And regarding the speeds, all I can say is that it was paid for (partially) by my employer, splitting into standalone drives, thus splitting the workload between the drives, allowing access for multiple users for a "project". Since that time, the "project" has evolved, and here I sit with this behemoth.

All good. I had 2 x 900P Optane drives in Raid 0 in 2017 for work at one point. That was like $2K in high speed memory for drone imagery.

So you know the feeling, exactly.

This rig has more power than I will ever utilize it for, especially since all I have time to play nowadays is Path of Exile and the occasional League of Legends game with some old friends. :anonymous:

Thought this might be of interest to this thread's audience.

Recently got a 3D printer so I obviously made some case upgrades:

More airflow for when I watercool this workstation. Not that it needs it though, just for fun.

I might just buy a 5000D airflow though, I didn't realize they were so cheap!

Ayyyy that's a great idea! I might have to do that with my case. Not a fan of where the front fans pull from (sides and bottom mostly). Good thinking.

    Thanks!

Do it up! It only took me like 5 minutes to model and 17 hours to print the 2 halves.

I actually blocked off the bottom opening too with gaff tape as I own a 110 lb GSD who sheds as his hobby.

Oh man, I know that pain.

We have two GSDs in the house, a ten year old and a one year old. German Shedders is what we call them.

My drive may not be dead after all. I zero'd it out which caused it to remap the dead sectors. But obviously I won't trust it with important data, so I'll continue using it to boot iso images.
