I'm okay with that if you start with this version (4WD, low range, manual hubs)

Correct. Throwing away a load of granite countertops because Janice got cultured glass counters, so it’s time for a refresh.

They have more horsepower for one (300hp). Electric fan. Trans mounted without the heavy 4x4 driveshafts.

Drove the Chevy/GMC midsize trucks and vs a Tacoma, man it's a world of difference. It's how I would imagine a 4.88/5.13 taco would drive

Y know, it’s funny, but you can’t thwart the Toyota factory programming without tuning. I have 4.88’s and rather than lugging around in 3rd gear at 1100 RPM, you just lug around in 4th gear at 1100 RPM. Same difference.

There are lot of benefits to the 4.88s other than normal drivability, but anyone thinking their transmission programming is gonna be outsmarted by a regear is wrong (barring having an aftermarket tune).

Hilarious, I'm not familiar with the Chevy/GMC config but it drives extremely well. We have mountains and one of the steepest roads in the country which is usually a good test.. Taco struggles to keep 10mph in first gear (foot to the floor), the GM feels like it's just waking up

    Stock and staying that way
67k miles on my truck. I’m still waiting for it to act up.

I suspect the folks complaining think it should act like the 4 speed auto they had for years.

    People comparing a 2gr to a 3vze have clearly never driven/owned a 3vze.

At one time, 1gr's were hated by 5vzfe owners. Now 2gr's are hated by 1gr owners. It's all a cycle.

My reply was in regards to a comment on the Tacoma and whether or not it was the transmission or Atkinson cycle. Not comparing Highlander to Tacoma.

Looks like I quoted the wrong post. I don't even remember the post I was supposed to reply to.

I think its the Atkinson cycle.

Even the Lexus 5.0, which I believe also has a atkinson, doesn't have as much torque has it should have with 471hp and 398 lbs-ft.
