Yeah, with my discount the auto darkening wasn't even expensive either!

Instructor says; this, this, this, etc. you can cheap out on. They're consumables (brushes, gloves for stick/mig, etc).

This, you'll want A but B will work as well depending on how serious you get (hood, other odds and ends).

You'll definitely want this if you want to keep it for a long time and not have to buy again (welder, cart, etc).

Its all subjective. You find what you like and what you dont. I like a Jackson hood with Tillman Tig gloves that I use for Mig as well. Mig/stick gloves are too hot and have little dexterity for me. A miller cotton jacket works great for me.

As far as consumables we have a work account with AirGas so its all the radnor garbage they sell.

For machines Im a Hobart/Miller guy. I suggest people stay away from the cheaper chinese inverters (AHP, Everlast, Longevity etc) that are super popular just for the simple fact that its hard to find consumables for them without ordering online. And you will reach a point where you need a gas lens at 4:15 on a Friday and Airgas only carries the Miller ones.

Don't be me; wear sleeves (and leg protection if squatting). My house is an OSHA-free zone though

Had an older Ironworker structural welder that taught me.. sumbish absolutely HATED auto darkening helmets, because when you're welding a skyscraper together (he was from jersey and worked in New York city) nothing sucks more than being 20 stories up and having a battery die lol, I only ever used a passive when he was around otherwise it's auto ALL the way

Looks good! I'm glad you are getting to use of it.
I was working on finishing one of your projects today! Drilling out the tack welds sucked.
