Yeah, as person who owns a small business, it’s a tough decision. Do you go up on your prices so you can make the same profits you made last year, or do you take a hit with your profit margins.
I will tell you that the latter will only ensure you’ll have to close your doors eventually.
Hell I have been cutting some peoples yards for 10years now, we never miss a beat and take pride in our work.
I asked a handful of my clients that were already not paying enough (aka, I had to start my business with competitive pricing), when I sent out an email just asking for $10 extra a cut, I lost 7 clients in one day. Mind you we were servicing their entire property for $60, which after taxes, material cost and paying your helper. I was making jack shit off those clients.
What’s sad is these aren’t people hurting for money, these are 700k houses with executive jobs.
What I have come to find out, is that a lot of people will pay whatever it costs for Cable, Costco Trips, whatever…but when it comes down to lawns, the majority of people want me to do the work, and match the price with a guy who stays with his mom, and is 55years old, beat to shit truck and a push mower.

you can make good money landscaping, but if you fill up your roster with asshats, you will only ensure the death of your biz.

Because my client base is in the cool part of town “East atlanta village” I find that there are a lot of people who are strapped with buying their first house at $450+ and they are literally shuffling money around to make their bills. Or at least that’s my perception as to what causes some of this.

Not bad at all. Did you pay extra for an added tire protection plan like discount tire's certificate so if it can't be repaired they will replace the tire? That alone added like $112 to my final cost last week getting tires.
