I got invited to be an OnX Ambassador. They requested some pictures. Seem like good people.

 

They do this to collect private information, it's not for your benefit or the community's it's 100% for theirs

 

Reminds me of when so many Unix applications were developed on the Sun Solaris platform. I think Sun must have been providing free hardware for development purposes. So we bought some Sun servers because we knew the apps would have fewer issues.

dropped the slug's old wheels to 50 on offerup and have a buyer finally. Thankfully, wanted them to have a second life and not recycled


so in theory, only paid for the paint on the new wheels, since they were 50 as well

So that loud PING I'm getting when accelerating/decelerating has gotta be a bad u-joint. How shitty of a job is it to change one out?

 

Pretty easy, I’d just cut the old one out if that’s an option for you, little easier than pushing one out.

 

Worn splines in the slip joint cause ping sound too.
Better replace the driveshaft with a new OEM from TOYOTA.

Nah its definitely not the slip yoke ping, I'm well familiar with that sound and got it to go away a year or so back by greasing it with that blue Ford stuff by hand.

That one would only happen when going into reverse usually, and it was definitely from the rear.

This sound is more like from directly under/behind me and happens whenever I go on/off the gas. Wondering if I fucked up a u-joint somehow when I did my carrier bearing about 6 months ago, who knows.

$38 51510x Spicer 5-1510X U-Joint Kit

51510x seems to be the right part for 4x4s, fits the front/rear driveshafts. Lets see if I can actually order this from Rockauto or if they'll tell me no because I live in CA and it might give me cancer.

 

Shoot grease into the ujoints and see if it quiets down.

hope not cause its usually just easier to replace the whole driveshaft in that case right

I grease the u-joints probably once a year/15,000 miles so they aren't neglected.

 

Just go with a BT drive shaft

Does anybody torque the DS bolts per recommended scheduled maintenance?
