I've developed a Popeye arm/shoulder on my left side from constantly picking up and carrying my daughter on that side.

Pretty soon I'll be a full blown hunchback

that is a very nice passive setup. It's worth getting comfortable using it. sometimes the auto dark won't work in a tight space or might die all together in the middle of a project late at night :homer:

That said having a great auto helmet is SOO helpful. It's nice to be able to dial in the settings and go

Jesus how much would that suck to have your auto darkening not work when you needed it to, lol. Does the regular shield still offer at least enough protection to not flash burn your eyes if that happens

You mean the auto dark if it doesn't darken? it should block UV but you're probably still gonna have some discomfort from the flash. That's my experience anyway :homer:

I'd say no because with it off, you can see through it in a dimly lit room still.

That's why I'm not writing off the passive setup; I'll be using that one first to get familiar with it and use the other one when we start doing TIG.

The bed is from the silver 99 that I got last month to part out. We going to throw this bed on the 5lug so it will all match. I'm thinking about making a trailer out of the green bed that's on the 5lug.

I run a Miller Classic auto darkening. Sometimes I have to reset it when it randomly stops darkening and the flash definitely still isn't ideal lol.

Aren't most of them solar now?

I had a cheepo Harbor Freight one for several years, and that thing never lost a battery. Got a Lincoln one now, same thing.

Sounds like maybe he was an old timer and remembers back in the day when the auto darkeners first came out and were powered by rubbing two sticks together or something.
