I understand the lure of the market prices. That is why I sold my 2016 with 25k miles (paid $30.5k new and sold 5.5 years later for $30.5k). You may regret it later. I sold a 2008 with 59k miles after I bought my 2016. The longer I owned the 2016, that got 18 mpg city/25 mpg hwy, the more I regretted selling the 2008. The mpg is better on the 3rd gen. The 2nd gen truck is a MUCH better truck. Sold the 3rd gen and bought 2 2nd gens. Now I am happy and do not care about mpg any more. I know what I have is the best generation of Tacoma with much better power and reliability.

If I get back in a Tacoma it would be a 2nd gen reg cab 4x4. I just don’t need even a “mid-size” truck these days. I had all the intentions of off roading and overlanding with the family, but it’s not in the cards with kids getting older etc. I placed an order for the new small hybrid Ford Maverick a few weeks ago. 40mpg and 8 year warranty for close to what I got for the Tacoma. Same payload capacity and I don’t tow anything. Just fits my life much better.

after reading the bivy stick basic plan it's $17.99 per month but the credits only roll over if you keep the monthly plan active.

Garmin it's $11.95/month for the basic annual plan and $14.95 for the monthly plan that you can pause at any time.

My buddy owns a Toyota junk yard and he told me that 2nd gen tacomas are best trucks out there.

Started my Clazzio install today (3rd Tacoma-2nd truck in the last month). Love the covers. Don't love installing them. Got to do passenger seat and then let them breathe and de-wrinkle a couple of days before I tweak them. Tight as a glove. This pair was only $233.10 delivered.

Done except for a final tweak in a few days. Takes time for wrinkles to go away.

When I took my heads to the local engine shop they said the same, the 3.5 isnt in the same league as far as longevity.

Short of the head gasket issue he said my heads were almost perfect, they are doing alot of 3.5 heads from local dealers for various reasons.

It's funny you said that. In my area I think a Toyota salvage yard would go belly up. I cannot find a Tacoma in salvage yards in my region. I guess people don't junk them. I just needed a couple of small trim pieces for my sons truck and having no luck finding used Tacoma parts near me. There was a 2009 V6 Prerunner AC with 160k on craigslist today, was a repo with an engine knock, that is selling for $5500. If I had the time I would have bought it. Would be a good truck, even replacing the 4.0, for under $9k. Fuzzy pictures but body looked clean and straight.

Engines hard to find in 4.0 and if you find one it will be around $5K for engine alone, they just dont break

I did a couple of quick local off-roading adventures couple days ago and today.

Did a few trails around Cedro Peak outside of Albuquerque for the first time, including every offshoot obstacle I could find.

Funny, but you go up some rough obstacle, rock as big as your tire and the picture looks like you could drive a damn Prius up it. This was the little offshoot just by the Cedro radio towers.

Also cruised down to Socorro, NM to drive the Quebradas Backcountry Byway from S to N, then ran a few trails in Gordy’s Hills OHV area.

Contemplating the optional obstacle, but chickening out on my solo run.

Nice little optional 24+” step down. Love tap on the slider and a bit of flexin.

Then ran down a trail that the brilliant BLM folks didn’t mark the top of the trail as closed. So I drove all the way down it to find a barbed wire fence at the bottom .

Tried to grease the five 4x4 driveshaft points today.... Ya: successful on the usual easy three. The other two???? You know: the front ones.... The Toyota engineering team that designed this set-up (if there's any still around) should be fired.... And anyone still on the team should be fired as as well for not changing it over the last 16 years. (my truck is a 2014). Remove little skid plate for hidden one??? Ha!!! Maybe if I spray the bolts with PB Blaster or Breakaway every day until next spring/2022. Angled one that only a needle tip might fit.? Rediculous. I have three grease guns and those two defeated them all. Obviously, the engineering team gets free maitainace at the dealership if they own a Tacoma or they just turn them In every 5,000 miles...
