Ahh, a goat gets you 40A... good to know. I guess chickens are better for the low amperage stuff.

So I see that you picked the angled part of the composite bed. The only thought I had about taking that spot is it bumps the possibility of 2020+ OEM flush mount bed lighting. I’m trying to decide where I want mine. Hmmm.

I think you can squeeze both in with the factory light position. Being a 2016 you'll have more flexibility since you get to make the hole for the bed light.

If you are making more anytime soon. I would like the 3rd gen brake light tap with a tap for all three wires.

Checking back in on this one, I have a bare bones SR with no trailer wiring, can you make a full trailer wiring connection?

Not sure if you kept a running list, but I would be in to buy one now or be placed on a wait list for a brake light tap.

But I also noticed that you can make a plug for a topper that also has a constant 12 volt for the light inside the truck? Now that is what I would be looking for.... otherwise I guess just a brake light tap for the third brake light....

Ooh… nice! Can you make taps for reverse lights as well?

I would have sent you one if you had mentioned that.

We can also do custom DIR w reverse tap.

Are you wanting brake or reverse? I finally had a chance to get my hands on a 4Runner. I can “easily” make a tap for reverse off of the trailer connection. I put easily in quotes because there are 2 connectors that need to be used, or I can use one and then you would have to ground to the chassis. As to brake, that is harder. Tapping the trailer isn’t a great option there because the brake light is combined with turn signals. I could use a couple of diodes easy enough so that when you get the brake, the light will light up solid regardless of what the turn signals are doing. Where it falls apart is doing it this way, if the turn signals (right or left, doesn’t matter) but the brake wasn’t pressed, the added light would blink as well. I guess that might not be too bad, but making it work on brake and brake only gets pretty tricky. We’d be better using the 6-pin from behind the taillight and getting one wire out of there. The other issue would be cost. Here is just the connector housing cost:

Reverse+ tap (could also be used for the blinking brake light set up described above): $6.00 female, $6.00 male
Ground tap for reverse light or brake light: $4.21 female, $4.21 male

that doesn’t include seals and terminals. But you can see how quick it adds up. Around $25 in just parts. Compare that to using the 6port tap behind the taillight, which goes for under $7 including terminals. Neither include shipping, and the shipping for the trailer tap is $20 (out of Japan) and the taillight tap is like $5. But I’m down for trying either :D

Very thorough response thank you! So, I've already kinda "cheated" on this one. Rather than looking into taps, I just used a 7-pin trailer plug and wired that to my bumper lights. Instead of a single brake or reverse light, I'm using SSC2 lights that have a dual function. The trailer plug on the 4Runner is sort of tucked under the bumper so it's less obvious than the Tacoma.

Now technically I should have selected red backlights on these, as you said the trailer circuits work as both brake and turn signal. The white SSC2 lights can be optioned with red, blue, white, or amber backlights. But the yellow lights can only be optioned with amber backlights. I picked these on purpose because they have a warm white 4000K base emitter instead of the 6000K emitters in the white lights. Just a preference thing, I find 6000K lights to be too harsh. The lights have a circuit that turns off the backlight automatically when the main chips kick on, so there's nothing to do other then wire them up.

I will hit you up if I decide to redo the wiring! Maybe turn them into signal/reverse only.
