Components are amplified via an ID class D amp (150.2) and my sub is amplified via an Alpine 500.1 class D amp.

Hey guys. I would like to add a self contained powered subwoofer to my 2021. An eight or ten inch would be fine I am sure. Any recommendations for that type of setup. Also, besides the power and ground wires to the battery what is required to connect to the factory non JBl head unit. Thanks!

Edit: Something that I can just stick behind the seat with no modification

Any one of these will fit without modifications, but the last one will require a separate amp:

    1. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20611HS8/Kicker-11HS8.html (can fit under front seat or rear storage cubby. I believe the 10" version of this will also fit in the rear storage cubby if placed vertical, but it's too wide for under the front seat)
    2. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13693330/JL-Audio-ACP108LG-W3v3.html (will fit in storage cubby behind rear seat)
    3. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-dNfZevV85W4/p_13694654/JL-Audio-Stealthbox.html (designed to fit in storage cubby behind rear seat)

Crutchfield can recommend what specific items you'll need (wiring kit, ect) to make it work with your factory non jbl head unit.
If it were me I'd go with the 2nd or third one in the list. That's what I'm planning on eventually. The first one might leave something to be desired in the bass department.

OEM Audio makes a plug and play kit with subs, speakers, and a dip amp for the tacoma, but they're pricy.

Thank you!! I’ll read through it all. Yeah, 1k is def more than I want to spend. I was hoping for a nice little improvement under 500ish.

I don't think the LOC I linked in my previous post will work with your 2021 as the head unit is different than the 2016-2019. You might pm @destin_meeks for help. It appears some have sourced a taco tunes wiring harness for a Camry that they have made work?

EDIT: This one was claimed to have worked with the 10" kicker mentioned above. See post 10:

Just ordered the 10in Kicker one and ill run the power and ground to battery and then I was told just to tap into speaker wires for right and left side behind radio or wherever

Either way, the loc in the last part of my post should work with your 2021. A few Amazon reviews said it did also. I'm curious to see how you like it once it's installed.

This will NOT fit Tacomas 2021, but....... Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2021
    Verified Purchase
The adapter as illustrated in the picture wont fully connect to the back of 2021 Tacomas, the white adapter in particular. In reality, the only part you need is the black connector adapter harness and the RCA box adapter, the only porpourse if the white connector adapter harness is to tap into power to remote start the amp, thats it. Guess what I did, I connected black adapter harness to the back of the radio and to the original OEM harness, the RCAs to the RCA conversion box, then, I ran the remote power cable directly into the fuse box to one of the accessories power fuses and thats it, is all working great, your welcome!!!!

That was from the thing you linked so seems like it will work. I didn't know I needed to use a trigger wire (which I assume is remote power cable), but I guess you do if you're not tapping off the speakers or something

Seems that all the reviews say it works for 2020 so unless something changed in 2021 idk

Yes with eTune 3 (carplay) introduced in 2020, the connectors changed.
As you mention, the 10 and 6 position connectors have been the same since 1985 (maybe from before then) for +12v, Ignition, ILL + and -, Ground, Remote, Power Antenna, and speaker (white, grey, green, purple x 2, black stripe denotes negative).
To capture only speaker wire to feed to high level inputs on an amplifier, any T to the 10 pin will get you what you want.

I have no idea what this means. I am a simple man and not much into car audio lol. Would it be easier just to tap into the left and right speakers behind the radio or should I buy that harness? And there’s a lot of wires back there that look the same color from the pics I’ve seen

Sorry, I think I've confused myself as well here. I think either way will work, so whatever is easier for you.

Rough video but you can see how he shows you the connectors at just shy of 2:00 in.
The connectors for 2019 and earlier are different, a 10 and a 6, and they match the eBay auctions which are for pre-2020 eTune 2.0.
TLDR: You need add-an-amp for 2020+ aka etune 3
