I bought my 2021 SR5 4x4 AT DCSB at the end of December 2020. Sticker was $37,500 (not exactly $500 even but I can’t remember the last 2 digits off the top of my head).

I got the dealership down to $32,000 flat. Lied to them and said I didn’t have a trade in until after I got them down to that price. Then told them about my trade in and it paid for more than half of my Taco.

I also told the salesman that I really wanted a Ridgeline and already had one picked out at a dealership down the road. Said I just wanted to test drive 1 Tacoma before I went back and bought the Honda. He had no idea I’d been searching for a Tacoma for months and wasn’t going to buy any other vehicle.

So I got a little over $5K off MSRP. I know they wouldn’t have gone as low as $32K if they knew about my trade-in up front.

Let me tell you, they were mad when I drove off in my new Tacoma. The sales manager actually came up to me after everything was signed and admitted that I caught them on a bad week and he needed to move some inventory.

Actual rebates you can look up from Toyota. They advertise them all over. They are normally targeted at certain populations. For example the current ones are for recent grads and Active/1yr discharge Military. If you go to their finance calculator you see them as check boxes. Currently they are also doing a lot of lease/finance deals, as is normal at end-of-model year. You may not get them down on sticker. But pointless dealer add-ons (Read: anything that shows it has its own sales tax), your trade-in, and lower interest rates are still handles you can yank on for them.

Make no mistake, Dealers are making massive $$$ off this shortage, atleast here in Colorado. The 40% production slash was just for September. They are still, and were always still, pumping out trucks. Toyota is the grand master of production efficiency, companies blatantly copy/pay Toyota all the time. There is a slowdown, there is a chip shortage, there is more demand than supply. But tacos are still getting made. Tacos are still selling like hotcakes. Profit margins are just far more massive.

I highly recommend finding an auto broker. Mine was upfront and is getting me a rather rare config for slightly under MSRP, which for my area is saving me probably $5,000 - $7,500 compared to what I could reasonably expect from a dealer.

Prior to Covid/shortages, the range of good deals was approximately this off MSRP(not dealer price):
    6% off =average good deal
    8%=good
    10%=very good
    13+%=excellent

Oh okay, that's good then. That's a little below retail so it's good your dealer isn't jacking the prices up.

Oh I know ! I fought to get $51,739 taxes everything in on a sport premium. That's what it cost without extras. I added TRD suspension and exhaust. The sad thing is I would have paid retail although I've never come close to that before lol

    Waiting on a 2021 Army Green OR, DC V6 5ft bed, Advance Tech Package, Premium Off-Road Package, LED lights, MSRP $45,122 + $1,281 (added Accessories) = $46,403 Selling Price - $500 (Military Rebate) - $12,000 (2009 Tacoma sport long-bed 199,000 miles Trade In) + $519 fees + 2408.21 taxes (TN) = Balance $36,830.21

I hope it was a good deal.

Just got an offroad DCLB in black with those same packages. MSRP was 46,100. All said and done was like 52,300 or something like that. All the trucks with similiar packages that I've seen ( and I looked in mulitple states) had similar msrp so it seems about average for this market.

I just couldn't drop $50k on these trucks. No sir. Going to pick up mine tomorrow, will do a 20 minute test drive on city roads and interstate. I'm walking from the deal if it doesn't go 100% my way as far as trade-in $$$.

Just avoid the premium package and add the parts you want later on, its pretty simple. Hell, get the SR and save even more, still a great truck with plenty of loot to spend elsewhere.
