I just got home yesterday. Hunted 7 days in New Mexico for mule deer in Gila national forest. Hit one, never found him. Still feelings the butt hurt. Saw only 4 bucks the whole trip, mostly stayed in P J country and they never came out of canyons. Had to still stalk to find them.

I have blood tracking dog, and two weeks off a month. If something like that happens again, HMU

I don’t nor will I ever will do outfitters or private land hunts, so I can’t help you there.

However, I know you are required to go through one OR a be accompanied by a local resident if you are hunting in federally designated wilderness. Which is pretty much all the places worth hunting.

Unless the outfitters hold tags, usually you have to draw, with whatever the preference points required are now.

Cole and I went back this afternoon at 4:45, could hunt until 8:01. It was hot in the blind so we opened the windows. The feeder is less than 10 yards, this doe and fawns came out. I told him she would smell us and may blow at us but we’d see what happens.

She ate for almost 5 minutes before catching our smell and ran off, she got about 50 yards before blowing once. I think we did good, Cole is 9 and learned how to be super still with deer really close today.

It’s hard to tell but the one on the right behind the front one is last years deer, it has to be hers or she would have ran it off. It came out first and ate then walked off before coming back with them.

She had her ears up waiting on the others, I used that as a teaching moment for Cole to watch and learn from the deer themselves

I hate getting snorted at...because you know game is over...but its still funny when they know something isnt right but they snort and stomp and stick around. Sometimes in the blind ill see how much movement or noise i can get away with. Its cool to see what really triggers them

Well fellas no luck this year. First time our group has fully eaten tag soup. I got 58 yards from a big bull but he never gave me a shot at vitals before he caught wind of us and bolted. Last day out we were hiking our gear out of the area and had an absolute unit dart across the field but was in the next county by the time we got on his trail. Both were the closest I’ve ever been to an elk with a bow, so I guess that’s progress over the last two seasons

Anyone have tips for next season when hunting in an area like MT or CO where the wind literally swirls? We had perfect wind when bugling that big boy in and as soon as I was lining up for a shot, wind switched and he was gone. Went back the next two days from different directions and never heard or saw him again.

now I’m sitting in some podunk town in IL tending to my poor feet that took an absolute beating the last ten days. 8-10 miles per day in 10k+ Elevation really took its toll on my body (I live a mile from the ocean at a whopping 24feet above sea level)

I’m assuming Los Angeles and not Louisiana?

Archery is legal in all 50 states if I’m not mistaken

Oh and the ecoboost was real thirsty pulling that trailer to and from Colorado

says 9.4mpg but it was actually around 8 because the average included us driving my truck around to different trailheads and to and from town without the trailer
